What You Will Do
As a Psychiatrist, you will be responsible for providing psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for patients who have established care at the IHTC for a variety of hematologic conditions including bleeding and clotting disorders and sickle cell disease, under the supervision of the Medical Director / CEO.
The Opportunity
- Must be qualified to diagnose, treat, and manage adult patients with mental illness according to standard, usual, and acceptable methods, and techniques.
- Complete psychiatric evaluations resulting in diagnosis and treatment plans utilizing clinical interviews, observing behaviors, reviewing medical records, laboratory tests, and consulting with interdisciplinary treatment providers and patient family members, as indicated.
- Initiate additional consults or referrals as needed.
- Function as a consultant member of an interdisciplinary team consisting of Adult and Pediatric Hematologists, Advanced Practice Providers, Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Physical Therapists, Dietician, and School & Career Counselors to aid in the coordination of high-quality, whole person care.
- Provide psychotropic medication management services via both direct prescribing and consultation with IHTC medical prescribers in an outpatient setting.
- Collaborate with MD / APP’s treating chronic pain by optimizing management of mental health conditions.
- Assist with referrals for management of substance use disorders in patients with complex chronic medical illness as needed.
- Provide consultation and recommendations for patients with complicated acute and chronic pain management needs, including non-opioid medications suggestions.
- Facilitate inpatient admission for patients in need of acute psychiatric stabilization and / or addiction recovery detox and initiation when needed.
- Available for crisis consultation to IHTC prescribers as needed.
- Maintain detailed, accurate and current patient records. Documents clinical activity in a timely manner (48 hours).
- Provide follow up care for patients as appropriate.
- Collaborate with the utilization department as needed to ensure that sufficient clinical information is available for patients to receive appropriate care.
- Attend rounds weekly with entire treatment team to collaborate on patient care and treatment planning.
Travel as needed for camp and outreach, and onsite depending on employees’ home location.

Requirements
- Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the provision of mental health services with adults.
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
- Completion of a psychiatric residency or family medicine / psychiatry residency in a ACGME approved residency program.
- Current BC / BE in Psychiatry (American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Psychiatry.
- Previous training or practice experience providing care to patients with complex medical needs, pain management, and / or addictions preferred.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Indiana.
- Current CDS and DEA registration.
