The inspector is responsible for oversight of the fabrication facility's quality assurance on behalf of Bureau Veritas's client, in addition to on-site inspections during the construction phase.
The inspector must have significant knowledge of the American welding Society (AWS) codes and demonstrable experience in a similar position.
The skills required for this position include :
- Communicating with the Project Manager to determine the specific requirements of a given work order, including the scope of work, deliverables, schedule, and budget for a particular assignment;
- Communication with the Project Manager, fabrication shops, contractors, and other third parties to resolve schedule issues;
- Ensure that the services provided are performed in accordance with the project requirements and contract with the client;
- Generate and process timesheets, billing reports, and inspection reports in an expeditious and thorough manner, complying with all applicable deadlines.
- All reports must be submitted typewritten using Microsoft Word / Adobe Acrobat and must be electronically transmitted to the Project Manager;
- Communicate information from the fabrication facility regarding upcoming assignments and potential work that Bureau Veritas could perform
- Maintain a positive relationship between Bureau Veritas, the fabrication facility, and the client
- Ability to work remotely from the established Bureau Veritas offices;
- Client oriented approach with emphasis on understanding and fulfilling the needs of the client;
- Detail oriented with a dedication to the quality control and quality assurance process; ability to understand and read complex design and fabrication plans and specifications;
- Excellent communication and documentation skills, with ability to communicate technical issues to the Project Manager, clients, and the fabrication facility.
- Expertise in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) required; knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and Lotus Notes preferred. Proficient use of modern communication and computer equipment including cell phones, laptop computers and digital cameras;
- Ability to multi-task and properly execute multiple simultaneous assignments without sacrificing efficiency or quality of the work;
- Team player willing to work with clients, field staff, other Bureau Veritas offices, and the world wide Bureau Veritas organization
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
- Certified Welding Inspector (American Welding Society)
- For certification to ANSI N 45.2.6 Visual : A minimum of three years’ experience in weld inspection with two of those years as a certified VT Level II.
This can include time as an assistant, Level I, or Level II in MT, PT, VT, RT, UT (shear wave thickness does not qualify), or as a welder.
Documentation of this experience is required.
Ability to certify as Level II VT to CLIENT’s written practice, including documentation of
Documented formal classroom training of 24 hours.
Minimum of 210 documented experience hours in visual inspection. (Remember that a visual inspection is performed in conjunction with every MT, PT, RT, and UT shear This experience shall be obtained in a 1.5 to 9-month period.
Minimum of 400 total documented NDT experience hours.
Ability to certify as Level II PT to CLIENT’s written practice, including documentation of :
Documented formal classroom training of 16 hours.
Minimum of 210 documented experience hours in PT. This experience needs to be obtained in a 1.5 to 6-month period.
Minimum of 400 total documented NDT experience hours.
High School Diploma or GED. Employee must be able to produce documentation and it must be verifiable. CLIENT will contact the issuing institution.
Ability to pass the nuclear security screening process :
Valid driver’s license.
Original or notarized birth certificate with raised seal or valid passport.
Documentation of all education claimed.
No pending or open litigation. This includes DUI, or other reckless driving-type traffic offenses, and any pending criminal charges (felony or misdemeanor).
Felony convictions potentially may disqualify applicants.
Must not be subject to extreme financial hardship such as pending IRS recovery of back taxes, etc.
Cannot have failed any FFD (Fitness For Duty) testing and cannot have been subjected to non-voluntary substance abuse treatment.
Minimum of 5 character references that can be contacted during normal working hours. (Ensure that phone numbers are current and the person is available not working out of town or out of the country where they can’t be reached.

Complete written work history with no gaps. All gaps in employment or education must be verified with multiple references that can verify the employee’s whereabouts and activities during these gaps.
See requirements for references in (above). This history must go back to the employee’s last nuclear access or their 18th birthday.
Radiation dose history year-to-date and lifetime. Most nuclear plants have administrative limits around 2 R for the year.
If any candidate currently has received a YTD dose in excess of 1 R, we need to notify CLIENT in advance for approval. If they are over 2 R YTD, they most likely will not be accepted by CLIENT for the training.
The candidate must be capable of learning some basic skills :
Good, solid written communication skills for generating reports.
Professional appearance and attitude, excellent work ethic, punctuality, and self-starting / motivated.
Solid interpersonal skills - ability to interface with all work groups including the Client, project management, welders, machinists, etc.
Ability to work with the ASME code.
Ability to read drawings and prints.
Ability to understand and adhere to multiple procedures. (Nuclear Safety / ALARA, Client Procedures, Welding / Machining - production work, NDE, Inspection,
Visual inspection of welds, including use of weld gauges and measurement tools (calipers, micrometers,
Basic understanding of welding procedures and AWS welding symbols.
Leadership skills are a plus.
Ability to certify in MT is a plus. CWI, SCWI, or Level III credentials are a plus.
Previous unescorted access at a nuclear power plant is a major plus.
Willingness to travel is required. Typical assignments are 3 to 8 week durations, six to seven days a week, generally 10 to 12 hours per shift, day and night shift assignments.
Current valid passport is a plus. Desire / willingness to travel overseas is a plus, but not necessarily required.
