Overview
The City of Boston is seeking a Policy Advisor to support development of Bostons first comprehensive strategy to mitigate residential, commercial and cultural displacement.
As a cross-Cabinet initiative, this effort is being coordinated by the Planning Advisory Council, an internal body that functions as the Mayors built environment cabinet, together with the Citys Housing, Planning, Economic Inclusion, and Arts & Culture teams.
Under the direction of the Planning Advisory Councils Executive Director, the Policy Advisor will work with collaborating departments to :
- Create and publish multiple public reports.
- Develop and implement new anti-displacement policy initiatives, programs and associated processes.
- Engage major stakeholders.
- Devise communication, education and outreach strategies to reach constituents across Boston.
Work on this important effort is well underway. The Policy Advisor will have the opportunity to join our cross-departmental team.
Responsibilities
The Policy Advisor will :
Help to author and release three major public reports,
including : a Summary of Needs, Progress Report on Existing Tools, and a
two-year Anti-Displacement Action Plan.
Help to devise and deploy new policies, tools and resources.
to mitigate residential, small business and cultural displacement, as part of
the Action Plan.
Support stakeholder engagement, including coordinating.
workshops with external partners and allies, devising communication strategies,
and authoring new educational materials.
Build relationships with PMs, planners and other staff in wide-ranging.
departments, including Housing, Planning, Streets, Economic Opportunity &
Inclusion, Small Business, Arts & Culture, Climate, Parks, Neighborhood
Services, Communications, Language & Communication Access, and the Mayors
Office.
Coordinate meetings with internal partners.
And, perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Entrance Qualifications
What youll bring / who you are :
Three or more years of experience in local policy analysis and development, such as housing, health, climate, economic development or other areas that afford an understanding of the drivers of - and solutions to - displacement;
Experience implementing residential, small business or cultural anti-displacement strategies preferred, but not required.
Masters degree in a relevant field preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, including experience authoring public-facing reports or other public materials and an ability to distill complex information in easy-to-understand terms.
- Community engagement experience required, with attention to inclusive engagement practices.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Human-centered, respectful of expertise in all its forms, and adept at building and maintaining strong relationships at all levels within organizations.
- Detail-oriented, highly organized and self-directed.
- Boston residency required. This is a one year appointment.
