Description
This is an acute care inpatient psychiatric care unit. We provide care to both voluntary and involuntary patients.
The Peer Support Specialist is an individual who self-identifies as a person with a behavioral health diagnosis, well established in their own recovery and can provide expertise that professional training cannot replicate.
The Peer Support Specialist provides consultation to the team and support to behavioral health patients in the acute care setting.
The Peer Support Specialist helps to promote a culture where patients' points of view are recognized and respected; and these points of view are integrated into the patients' treatment and plans upon discharge.
The Peer Support Specialist will participate in a multi-disciplinary team, providing insight from their own experiences and working with patients as an added layer of support to treatment.
The Peer Support Specialist will assist in patients' access to community resources and services and in discharge planning.
They will assist in verbal de-escalation of patients in emergent situations, and identify any obstacles or issues that may arise in the treatment milieu and work to create processes to assist with this.
Required Qualifications :
- H.S. Diploma or GED
- Upon hire : Certified Peer Counselor
- Personal experience with behavioral health diagnoses and treatment
Preferred Qualifications :
- Bachelor's Degree
- 1 year Job related experience in a healthcare setting
