Job Title : Medical Assistant III
Location : St. Louis, MO 63129
Duration : 8 weeks
Job Description :
- Interact directly with patients in a clinic setting, completing tasks such as obtaining vital signs, performing EKGs, phlebotomy, and verifying medications.
- Prepare for office hours by obtaining charts, scheduling tests, and preparing exam rooms.
- Assist with examinations, procedures, and lab tests.
- Support renewal and authorization of non-narcotic medications per standing orders and department guidelines.
- Administer medications under physician or nurse practitioner orders, including vaccines and IM and subcutaneous injections.
- Direct patient flow, assist with special procedures / treatments, and complete requisitions.
- Route phone messages, patient questions, and telephone communications to appropriate personnel.
- Aid in care coordination tasks like calling patients with test results, scheduling appointments, assisting physicians with return calls, scheduling surgeries, diagnostic procedures, and admissions, and monitoring patient contacts.
- Complete necessary paperwork and documentation in a timely manner.
- Answer basic patient / family questions regarding treatments, diagnoses, and procedures.
- If order entry in the electronic medical record is part of the job function, complete requisitions / orders according to established guidelines.
- Monitor supply inventory, ensuring adequate supplies, equipment, or garments are available and compliant with regulations.
- Clean and stock exam rooms and sterilize instruments.
- Maintain required HIPAA compliance, skills / competencies, and participate in in-services, staff programs, continuing education, and cross-training programs according to established standards.
- Comply with OSHA, state, and federal regulatory sources / standards.
- Participate in quality improvement activities to ensure appropriate clinical outcomes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills :
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program is highly preferred.
- One or more years of supervisory or team leader experience.
- Three or more years of Medical Assistant experience.
- Strong interactive communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with physicians, patients, families, and support staff.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and telephone skills, along with knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and experience with electronic medical records.
Education :
- High school diploma or equivalent certification.
- Medical Assistant certification / registration -eligible graduate or scheduled to graduate from an accredited medical assistant program.
Alternatively, graduates of accredited nursing programs (e.g., RN / LPN) may be considered.
- Proof of Medical Assistant registration / certification or the ability to complete registration / certification within six months of hire (or a shorter timeframe if required).
- Medical Assistant credentials must be obtained through in-person proctored exams from certifying bodies such as NHA, AAMA, or AMT.
Other certifying bodies' credentials may be accepted upon approval.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required; online BLS certifications without a skills assessment component are not sufficient to meet BLS requirements.
