JOB SUMMARY :
Serve as the subject matter expert regarding USDA Animal Welfare Act Regulations as they apply to Clemson University's Animal Care and Use program.
Identify, develop and provide outreach and training offerings for constituents of the Program. Additional duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES :
35% - Essential - Serve as subject matter expert and provide guidance to Clemson animal research farms, College of Veterinary Medicine, and facilities that use USDA-covered species.
Advise CVM, farm personnel, investigators and IACUC staff concerning the application of USDA Animal Welfare Act Regulations (AWAR), policies, and guidelines for animal care and facility standards.
Assist ORC Director and IACUC Administrator in collecting information for reports and incidents where AWAR would apply. Apply guidance from other applicable regulations and policies as needed.
35% - Essential - Develop and implement training program for new investigators, including protocol preparation. Provide training to PIs, staff and students regarding IACUC processes.
Serve as an advocate and educational resource for the animal research community. Develop training metrics for program.
15% - Essential - Conduct post approval audits at request of IACUC Administration (as an alternate / backup to Post Approval Analyst).
Provide support to the post-approval program by facilitating open discussions with research teams and PIs; identify and assist in resolving protocol deviations through education and / or protocol amendments.
15% - Essential - Serve as liaison for animal research community by conducting or facilitating outreach via department visits, talks and workshops.
Work with IACUC members and office staff to identify communication opportunities and provide educational resources as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :
Education - Bachelor's Degree
Work Experience 2+ years
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS :
Education - Master's Degree - Animal or research-related field
Experience - Well versed in animal welfare regulations. USDA experience. Experience in developing and implementing training programs.

COMPENSATION INFORMATION
Expected Salary : $ 46,655.00 - $ 67,000.00
Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's .
ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL
Normal Operations
Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
