About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY :

The John Martinson Honors Program is comprised of approximately 3,000 academically gifted students. The Assistant Director of Honors Community Development is responsible for directing, implementing, and assessing the Honors Living-Learning Community initiatives and overseeing student-driven co-curricular programming.

The Assistant Director plays an integral role in the John Martinson Honors Program and supports initiatives such as Orientation, Welcome Week activities, graduation recognition programming, and other initiatives as needed.

The Assistant Director also provides developmental advising to Honors students on issues such as Honors course selection, academic support, and co-curricular opportunities.

There are some weekend and evening hours required in this position to support programming.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE :

  • Selecting, training, and supervising 16 upperclass Honors students serving as Honors Living Learning Assistants
  • Supporting and serving as consultant to 16+ faculty / staff Honors LLC and Internal Admit Community Experience Coordinators as they design and offer high quality learning experiences that engage students in the community
  • Planning and implementing the annual LLC Fall and Spring Launch, PAWS points Initiative, and LLC Showcase events to engage students in their communities and highlight their experiences to the Honors community and our partners.
  • Recruiting, selecting, training and supervising 8-12 student leaders to co-design, facilitate, and assess initiatives designed to promote the engagement of upperclass students (e.

g., Honors Events Council).

  • Coordinating and supporting student-led learning initiatives (e.g., HEIST the Honors Exchange of Ideas, Skills, and Talents)
  • Designing and implementing assessment instruments to track student outcomes over time. Soliciting feedback, draft, edit and finalize reports for submission.
  • Providing limited developmental advising and guidance to Honors students, with special attention to supporting Associate Directors in assessment.
  • Collaborating with Honors team members, campus, and community partners to develop and realize the Northeastern University Honors program vision.
  • Contributing to the planning and implementation of both first-year and upperclass Honors programming, (e.g. HONR 1102, academic, community-building, and leadership development programming).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Master's Degree in higher education or related field required and two years of previous work experience in higher education required;

advising experience desirable.

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
  • Computer skills, experience working with Canvas or other Learning Management Systems desirable.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work collaboratively.
  • Experience working directly in or with Residential Life, Housing, including hiring and supervising student staff and creating high-impact student programming opportunities highly desired.

This position may also supervise a graduate assistant assisting with Honors Community Development and advising.
