What Your Job Will Be Like :
We are seeking a Compound Semiconductor Electronic Engineer to join our team. The selected candidate will participate in or lead product realization (from prototype development through qualification and sustained production) of radiation hardened compound semiconductor microelectronics (CSME) products.
Our team works in a highly collaborative environment to conduct III-V compound semiconductor research and development using epitaxial growth and microfabrication processes for a wide variety of microelectronic devices and integrated circuits with direct impact to our national security mission.
Material systems include GaAs, GaN, AlGaN, InP among others.
On any given day, you may be called on to :
- Participate in or lead creative research involving device and integrated circuit design in state-of-the-art III-V material systems such as GaN, AlGaN, GaAs, and / or InP semiconductors to advance compound semiconductor technologies and Sandia’s capability to deliver them to federal programs.
- Build customer relationships to anticipate program needs, manage risks, cultivate options, and lead the technical evaluations & decision-making processes involved in delivering CSME products to ND and other customers.
- Scope and manage resources to ensure timely, on-budget deliveries that meet quality objectives.
- Collaborate closely with experts across and outside Sandia to realize high-quality III-V microelectronics products for programs ranging from fundamental research to small-scale device production.
- Work within a team to iterate and optimize device designs based on test results and prototype performance.
- Create, seek, and develop new opportunities that utilize our world-class III-V Microelectronics capabilities.
- Partner closely with technical support staff to operate and maintain the integrity of our III-V tool sets and related facilities, characterize epitaxial materials, and fabricate test devices.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range : $109,300 - $217,400

Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require :
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Material Science or relevant field plus four (4) years of relevant experience or;
- PhD in the above fields
- Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q clearance
Qualifications We Desire :
- Evidence of dedication to laboratory safety
- Record of compound semiconductor device research innovation, as evidenced by peer-reviewed journal publications, conference presentations, or patents
- Three (3) or more years of academic, national lab, and / or industry experience in III-V nitride, phosphide, and / or arsenide device design, fabrication and / or characterization
- Experience with simulation of compound semiconductor devices
- Project management experience
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, including demonstrated abilities in effective leadership, negotiation, delegation, and conflict resolution in diverse team environments
