Job Title : Senior / Project Lead Designer
Department : Engineering
Reports to : Chief Designer
GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE WORK (Summary)
A Senior / Project Lead Designer reports to the Chief Designer. The position has the same responsibilities and qualification requirements across all offices.
Typically, a Senior Designer supports the Project Engineer to complete the engineering scope of work and deliverables for the project he / she has been assigned.
This role has limited administrative, technical content, and quality control management functions for the project assigned regardless of the project execution office location.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise project design team to ensure assigned deliverables are prepared to TNT and project-specific standards.
- Assignment and tracking of project design tasks according to the project schedule.
- Review and approval of technical drawings prepared by the project team before internal / external release.
- Assist the Project Engineer with coordinating work efforts across engineering disciplines (internal and external).
- Updating and management of the design deliverable list for project progress reporting.
- Participating in scheduled project engineering meetings.
- Design of bulk material handling systems for industrial applications, such as mines, port facilities, and process plants.
- Provide guidance and support to junior staff, including but not limited to supervising the production of designs / drawings, as well as providing input to project schedules, labor planning, and progress reports.
- Work in a team environment on large projects.
- Interact closely with other disciplines to coordinate the overall work of the Project.
- Review project documents prior to issuance for scoping and presentation, including verification of technical accuracy.
- Other tasks to be assigned.
HEALTH & SAFETY
- Work in compliance with all TNT health and safety rules and regulations.
- Be aware of any health and safety hazards in the workplace.
- Report health and safety violations / hazards to the Health and Safety Department.
- Participate in department safety meetings and incident footage.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma in Mechanical Design Technology or similar.
- 8 to 10 years of related experience in the design of material handling projects in the mining industry with emphasis on conveyors, crushers, and feeders.
- Steel structures, and / or concrete cementing, preferably in the mining industry.
- Experienced AutoCAD required.
- Advanced steel expertise is considered an advantage.
- Smart Plant experience is considered an advantage.
- Spanish speaking preferred.

- A willingness to travel both domestically and internationally, for varying durations, and sometimes to remote locations.
