Job Description

Job Description

We are looking for a DOER : an incredibly fast learner who finds inspiration in the pursuit to understand the unknown. We need someone who has a genuine intellectual curiosity - a spirit of asking why - and the willingness to experiment and hit the ground running in an essential and busy department.

Hearing because that’s the way we’ve always done it, in response to a recurring problem should make you at the very least annoyed and ideally sick to your stomach.

We are not interested in proving Einstein right yet again and doing the same thing forever and expecting different results.

We pride ourselves on quality and continuous improvement

Technical knowledge is important; it proves that you have done more than manage or execute on a superficial level. Skills and understanding in the below are relevant to this role and are not all-inclusive;

yet with a focus on learning ability, possessing 30-50% of them would still make an excellent candidate.

  • Basic electronics / electrical theory
  • 3D CAD (Solidworks, etc.)
  • 3D Rendering (KeyShot, Rhino, etc.)
  • Graphics software (Adobe CS)
  • Materials knowledge Plastics and common fabrication metals
  • Part manufacturing methods
  • DFM (design for manufacturing) / design experience
  • Additive Manufacturing
  • Graphic arts knowledge
  • Printing / platemaking of any type, but more relevant to lithography and silkscreen
  • Technical writing / good command of the English language to communicate and describe
  • Ability to accurately use basic precision measuring instruments
  • Ability (and willingness) to use basic hand tools
  • Prototyping using tools to make the things
  • MS Office know the basics and pick up more as needed
  • Knowledge of PCI or other banking-industry regulations helpful

It would be unreasonable to limit our search to only our niche industry and frankly, where exactly you come from doesn’t matter.

What DOES matter is your ability to bury yourself in knowledge of this industry, this company and our factory and help with projects both in Quality Assurance and Product Development.

We anticipate your tenure here will exist in at least 3 phases :

  • Learning
  • Assisting
  • Leading

The best candidates will be able to describe situations where their pursuits have led to concrete results or total failures.

Product development and innovation do not always end with great success; therefore, it is important to understand how you have dealt with and overcome adversity and what you learned along the way.

Some relevant examples of where your energy and drive will be directed include :

  • Using abilities of discernment, logic and critical thinking to identify root causes and apply countermeasures
  • Helping to generate ideas that are unique in our industry appearance, materials, processes, products
  • Supporting business endeavors complimentary to the company but outside of our current industry
  • Continuously review and improve our Quality System
  • Writing documentation like SOPs and work instructions for Quality processes and quality components of manufacturing processes
  • Understanding how measurement data is collected and designing ways to build-in error correction and poka-yoke features to eliminate bad data
  • Working with our in-house software engineers to turn data into actionable intelligence

Other non-negotiables are :

  • Comfortable working in a regulated industry and a secure facility
  • On-site work (we’re family-focused and flexible, but this is not a WFH position)
  • Honesty / Integrity / Humility do what you say you will do, be a good human, admit when you’ve made a mistake and we’ll solve it together (before the house burns down)
  • Communication skills written and in-person
  • OK with occasional travel we’re not road warriors but we get around from time to time
  • Pass an intense background check (required in our industry) and drug test
  • Understanding of math we look at a lot of data and you’ll need to understand what it means
