Join our team to help improve lives and create a safer Utah. The psychiatric / developmental technician is an entry level position.

A valid driver’s license will be required. Employees will be a part of a multidisciplinary team who serves people primarily with serious mental illness, substance use disorders, who also have criminal convictions.

This is a full time position with state employee benefits.

  • Psychiatric / Developmental Technicians provide direct care to individuals with mental and behavioral health concerns including : observing, monitoring, and reporting individual’s behavior;
  • participating in and supervising individual’s activities; teaching daily living skills; de-escalating in crisis situations;

assisting in maintaining a therapeutic, safe, and secure environment. Employees must be able to properly manage aggressive, self-abusive, and non-compliant individuals and be able to implement and follow prescribed behavioral programs.

Employees must repetitively lift (minimum 50 pounds), and transfer individuals, perform direct care services to include : bathing, showering, dressing, toileting or changing incontinent briefs, oral hygiene, feeding etc.

Employees will work collaboratively as a valued member of the treatment team for individuals with serious and persistent mental illness.

Health Insurance - Public Employee Health Program (PEHP) :

  • 3 medical plan options. Choose a Traditional or High Deductible Health Plan. There is an Opt-Out Cash Benefit option for those who have other medical insurance coverage.
  • 5 dental plan options, with an Opt-Out Cash Benefit option for those that have other dental insurance coverage.
  • 4 vision plan options under EyeMed or OptiCare

Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS) :

  • Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7 / 1 / 2011 are in the Tier I Public Employees System.
  • Employees hired on or after 7 / 1 / 2011 and who have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II System.

Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan.

Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.

Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.

Paid Time Off :

  • Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual, 4 hours sick).
  • Annual leave amounts increase with years of service.
  • We have 12 paid holidays.

Responsibilities

Monitors and observes individuals; records and reports individual’s conditions, progress, behaviors, activity, etc.

Reviews individuals charts and follows individual treatment plans, encourages and assists patients in completing scheduled treatment activities and goals

Assess situation and applies appropriate interventions to prevent or resolve crisis situations

Interacts regularly with clients and facilitates positive activities such as education and recreation.

  • Depending on area of assignment, a valid driver's license may be required.
  • Risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, e.g. being subject to possible physical attack, etc.
  • The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing, lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds, crouching or crawling in restricted areas, defending oneself and / or others against physical attack.
