Teaching Professor Position in Civil and Environmental Engineering

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEN) in the College of Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applications for a Teaching Professor position in structural engineering starting in September 2025.

The successful candidate may teach courses such as mechanics of materials, structural analysis, construction management, concrete and steel design and AutoCAD as well as graduate level courses aimed at practicing professionals in the area of resilient and sustainable infrastructure.

The appointment level will be made commensurate with experience. This is a 9-month, non-tenure-track position with primary responsibilities for undergraduate and graduate classroom and online instruction, undergraduate advising, and university service.

Initial appointment is for two years, with possibility of renewal and continuous appointment.

The College of Engineering is comprised of six departments : Bioengineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer and Information Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics.

We offer 8 undergraduate degree programs, 8 concentrations, 11 graduate programs, and 8 accelerated BS-MS programs that serve more than 1,300 students.

Duties

It is expected the successful candidate will be an engaging and effective teacher with a strong commitment to student learning and success.

  • Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate civil and environmental engineering courses; implementing inclusive and evidence-based teaching and learning approaches to ensure the academic success of a diverse population of students;
  • advising senior capstone projects; collaborating with faculty to enhance curriculum; providing academic advising; participating in university service activities;

and actively engaging in university diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have earned a master's degree in civil engineering or closely related field at the time of employment, have experience with teaching at the college level, possess excellent communication skills, demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence as well as diversity and inclusion, and be authorized to work in the U.

S. on a full-time basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong candidates will have a PhD degree in civil engineering or closely related field, be a licensed Professional Engineer, documented success in teaching at the college level, experience with both classroom and online modes of instruction, and industry experience in civil engineering.

We seek candidates who have demonstrated experience in efforts to increase the recruitment and retention of women and members of historically minoritized groups in engineering.

SALARY : $80,000 - $104,000
