Position Summary / Purpose of Position : The Department of Global, Environmental, and Occupational Health within the University of Maryland, School of Public Health and the School of Architecture, Planning & Preservation is seeking a highly motivated individual for the grant funded position of Project Manager.

This individual will join an innovative and collaborative team working on high impact public health, infrastructure, and environmental justice issues with local communities through our University of Maryland Grand Challenge Team Project the Water Emergency Team (WET).

WET will work with local communities and organizations to create a rapid response model to respond to sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs) and basement backups in Baltimore, MD homes, and underserved Black communities in the broader region.

WET will complete visual household inspections, conduct residential surveys and interviews, collect standing water and surface swab samples from impacted indoor areas, and analyze samples for antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

We will rapidly return inspection, survey, and sample results to the community, empowering them to remediate contaminated areas, develop solution-oriented programming, and ultimately advocate on their own behalf for municipal resources.

Responsibilities : The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Drs. Rachel Rosenberg Goldstein and Marccus Hendricks.

The candidate will coordinate project team meetings and communications, recruit student volunteers, maintain student volunteer database, coordinate and assist with field sampling activities and preparation for laboratory analysis, oversee inventory and ordering for project-related materials, and participate in community outreach and results dissemination.

Special Conditions Required :

Ability to travel, using own transportation, to field sampling sites in Maryland and the DC-metro area. Must obtain and maintain current CITI training and certification in Biomedical Research and Social & Behavioral Research.

Master’s degree (MPH, MS) in public health, planning, or related field (e.g. Environmental Science, Environmental Health Sciences, Environmental Engineering, etc.

or Bachelor’s of Science Degree with 2 years of relevant experience.

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (oral and written).
  • Enthusiasm for multidisciplinary research collaborations and passion for community-engaged projects.
  • Leadership skills and self-motivated.

Preferences : Preferences :

The ideal candidate will have a combination of skills, experience in managing projects including field sampling and laboratory analysis, knowledge of survey research, financial or business management skills, and experience maintaining databases.
