About the Role :

Were on the hunt for a dedicated Patent Agent with a degree in mechanical engineering electrical engineering computer science or a related field to join our clients IP Prosecution team .

Based in Boston or Washington DC this role involves supporting partners in drafting and prosecuting patent applications conducting freedom to operate studies and analyzing patents.

AM Law 100 Requirement :

To be considered for this role candidates must have recently worked at one of the AM Law 100 firms . To verify if your firm qualifies please check this AM Law 100 list .

Your Mission :

• Assess scientific literature patents and patent applications in areas such as mechanical engineering electrical engineering and computer science .
• Conduct comprehensive searches for relevant scientific articles patents and patent application documents .
• Compose patent applications including a background of the invention critical features and claims that distinctly define the invention.
• Draft responses to patent rejections from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and other global patent offices.
• Conduct clearance studies to ensure clients products are free of competitor patent issues.
• Collaborate with team members and clients to protect innovative technologies and build robust IP portfolios .

Core Competencies :

• Technical Expertise : Strong understanding of mechanical engineering electrical engineering and computer science to assess and critique scientific data and inventions.
• Patent Prosecution Skills : Experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications and preparing responses to patent office rejections.
• Clearance & Due Diligence : Ability to conduct clearance studies and ensure products comply with relevant patents.
• Communication & Collaboration : Ability to explain complex scientific concepts to both scientific and nonscientific audiences and work effectively within a team.

What You Bring :

• Degree in mechanical engineering electrical engineering computer science or a related field.
• Ability to present scientific concepts analysis and conclusions to a variety of audiences.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize competing responsibilities .
• Proven ability to collaborate and work effectively in team settings .
