Job Profile
- Within settlement authority acknowledge, adjust, negotiate, handle, settle, and resolve all liability claims including, but not limited to motor truck cargo, bill of lading legal liability, contingent motor truck cargo, errors & omissions claims for customs broker / freight forwarders, contingent auto liability and warehouse legal liability
- On liability claims in excess of settlement authority acknowledge, adjust, negotiate, handle and settle liability claims in conjunction with and upon obtaining approval from reporting manager
- Verify coverage under policy terms
- Ensure that liability claims are received and acknowledged to client within 24 hours of receipt.
- Set reserves on all liability claims within settling authority
- Where counsel is recommended, seek approval from reporting manager
- Monitor and manage legal expenses and lawyer work product. Obtain approval to pay legal fees and to post expense reserves from reporting manager
- Maintain and develop positive relationships with clients and law firms
- Process interim and final settlement information. Goal is to close cargo claim files within 30 days of receipt of all information
- Follow up on claims in a timely manner
- Adjust claims within settlement authority in accordance with RCS guidelines or as set up under various insurance company agreements
- Handle or refer insured’s’ questions and complaints and act as a mediator with the company if necessary, in coordination with the account executive
- Communicate with producers, account executives, and CSR’s regarding significant claim developments, account information or trends when appropriate
- Identify other new business opportunities and refer to management
- Comply with quality procedures and all company policies
- Provide backup for account executive and other staff as needed
- Pursue a program of professional development
- Assist the subrogation department in maintaining subrogation rights when applicable
- Adhere to and comply with established agency procedures
- Process tasks in a timely yet accurate manner
- Positive interaction with customers, fellow workers and company personnel
Job Requirements
- Law degree
- Excellent customer service skills
- A high degree of knowledge and understanding of the concepts of legal liability
- Experience with inland marine / motor truck cargo is preferred
- Ability to be flexible and to change direction or tactics if and when particular situations dictate
- Ability to be detailed and thorough in evaluating a file and analyzing exposures and potential resolutions
- Sufficient math skills to work with numbers and percentages
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Computer skills to service accounts in a professional manner
