Job Summary

The Security Guard / Public Safety Ambassadors protect and guard University property (both clinical and nonclinical); maintain order among the public and the UCSF community;

monitor and control entry to restricted areas; inspect areas to prevent fires, accidents, and other hazards; direct visitors and answer questions concerning building and / or exhibit layouts.

The job will involve the ability to push and pull up to 25 pounds; stand and walk for extended periods of time; carry and lift 21-30 pounds and run short distances.

Department Description

The UCSF Security Services Division strives to ensure the safety and security of learners, staff, and patients inside and outside of UCSF properties, clinics, and health facilities.

They assist UCSF PD to provide a crime-free and safe environment through the highest level of professional services, integrity, respect, and excellent customer service.

The UCSF Security Services Division is a Division in the UCSF Police Department. The UCSF Police Department's overriding mission is to enhance the safety and quality of life for students, faculty, and staff across the UCSF system.

By working in partnership with the community, UCSF PD strives to promote public safety and crime prevention through education and enforcement;

maintain public order while preserving the legal rights of all individuals; provide efficient and courteous service; and reduce the impact of crime.

The UCSF Police Department is known for its community service orientation, effectiveness at preventing crime through campus community involvement, and for providing a safe living and working environment for the promotion of education, research, and public service.

The Security Services Division provides site security services to a daily population of over 60,000 people at university and contract locations.

UCSF Fresno Regional Campus is an educational and clinical branch campus of UCSF that is located in the Central San Joaquin Valley and is administered by the Office of the Associate Dean in Fresno.

UCSF Fresno is focused on improving health in California's San Joaquin Valley through excellence in medical education (physician training) patient care innovative clinical research and community partnerships.

The UCSF Fresno Regional Campus supports 9 residency programs, 17 fellowship programs, 3 PA programs, the SJV Prime and SJV Prime+ medical student programs, and several pipeline programs.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid California Driver's License.
• Excellent customer service and effective problem-solving skills; ability to fluently speak, read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in English.
• Demonstrated ability to work calmly under stress in emergencies; sound judgment skills.
• Demonstrated record of excellent attendance and reliability.
• Requires bending, squatting, and climbing stairs; pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds; reaching above shoulder level; sitting for extended periods and the ability to stand and walk for extended periods;

carrying and lifting 21-30 pounds; gripping and grasping; repetitive movements of upper and lower extremities; and ability to run short distances.

• General Personal Computer knowledge and demonstrated proficiency using MS Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
• The following items must be obtained within the first six months of employment :
• C.P.R. Certification
• Basic First Aid certification
• CPI de-escalation training
• AED training
• Clery Act training

Note : Physical / health screening, fingerprinting, and background checks are required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience and training in the security field.
• One or more years of experience in the security field.
• California Guard Card.
• Military experience.

License / Certification

• License : Valid and unrestricted California Driver's License- Class C (required)
• Certification : BSIS (Guard Card) Certification (completed within one year from date of hire)
