Electronics Technician II

TSC is seeking a highly qualified professional Engineering Technician II to support the Naval Research Laboratory located in Washington DC in construction, assembly, and test of spacecraft thermal systems.

The successful candidate will have experience integrating and testing experimental engineering satellites. The position requires excellent communication skills to work with customer scientists and engineers.

The Engineering Technician will work in clean room environments and follow ESD protocols. The Engineering Technician will work with hand tools and will interpret engineering drawings, mechanical assembly drawings, and electrical schematics.

This position will require work in confined spaces and work with hazardous materials.

Responsibilities :

  • Assemble, test, and install heat pipe systems for space applications. This process involves silver soldering of stainless and copper tube junctions.
  • Hose and tube fabrication.
  • Charging LN2, Freon, Ammonia, and other liquids and gases on carts for lab use.
  • Installation of thermal systems on space vehicles.
  • Operation of forklifts and cranes as required for laboratory operations.
  • Assembly of 3D printed parts for prototyping and potential flight use.
  • Advising engineers and scientists on requirements for assembly of complex thermal, pressure monitoring, and actuator systems involving pipes and tubing.
  • Assist with launch operations of orbital and suborbital space vehicles, including booster integration, final blanket installation, pre-launch checks, and other activities as required.

Required Qualifications :

  • TS clearance with SCI eligibility.
  • Five years’ experience in spacecraft assembly, integration, test, and launch operations.
  • NASA solder, crimp, and polymeric certification.
  • Certification for forklift and crane operation.
  • Experience with silver solder of pressurized fluid systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to support multiple independent programs in an adaptable, fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Ability to read and understand technical requirements / drawings.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant license.
  • Familiarity with spacecraft contamination control.
  • Familiarity with spacecraft thermal / vacuum and vibration testing requirements and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
