Job Summary :
The Assistant Finance Director is responsible for overseeing and supporting the Fiscal Department and managing the financial activities for Training and Research Foundation.
Supervisory Function :
Oversee and manage the Fiscal Department.
Key Duties and Responsibilities :
- Experience with the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) and / or California Department of Education (CDE) Contract Management.
- Lead the financial management of the organization, including budget development, financial reporting, cash management, and compliance with GAAP.
- Manage government-funded programs, ensuring strict adherence to federal, state, and local legal requirements by staying updated on relevant legislation and consulting with external advisors.
- Prepare and file necessary financial reports and audits, advising management on potential risks and actions.
- Provide strategic financial guidance to senior management, identifying opportunities for financial growth and ensuring long-term sustainability.
- Experience with QuickBooks Accounting Software is a plus, facilitating efficient financial management.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state grant and contract accounting requirements.
- Experience in preparing for and managing external audits, including financial and compliance audits.
- Expertise in Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), including forecasting, long-term financial planning, and variance analysis.
- Specific experience with cost allocation methods and nonprofit budgeting, particularly related to government contracts and grants.
- Experience with financial systems implementation, including software selection, implementation, or migration.
- Strong knowledge of internal controls and risk management practices to safeguard the organization's financial health.
- Experience managing and reporting on multiple funding streams, including federal, state, private grants, and donations.
- Ability to prepare and present financial reports to the Board of Directors or Finance Committee.
Requirements :
Education and Certifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Management, or a related Financial field.
- Must have 2-4 years of progressive Senior Management experience, including direct experience in managing CDE and / or CDSS government-funded programs.
Desired Skills and Competencies :
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex financial data and provide strategic recommendations.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with experience in supervising and developing a finance team.
- In-depth knowledge of nonprofit financial management laws and regulations.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders.
Other Requirements :
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Experience with CDMIS and / or CDPR, CACFP Software and Data Reporting.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS :
- Complete a physical examination (LIC 503), and provide proof of immunization for the following : influenza, Tdap, MMR, and a Current TB test
- Submission of satisfactory proof of your identity and your legal authorization to work in the United States. If you fail to submit this proof, federal law prohibits us from hiring you.
- Complete Child Abuse Mandated Reporter (AB1207)
- Must complete & pass a criminal background clearance through Community Care Licensing (DOJ / FBI / CAI).
