GCI's Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading multiple concurrent projects to completion by following project management methodology to initiate, plan, execute, control, test, report, and close out projects to specifications within deadlines and budget.

Project responsibilities include reviewing project requirements, design documents, business validation, and post-launch support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AT ALL LEVELS :

  • Manage personnel resources within all internal engineering groups, consultants, and contractors.
  • Work across multiple department lines, identifying resources needed both internally and externally, engaging professional design and engineering services, and general contractors.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets and project schedules to include traditional Gantt and PET charts, etc.
  • Validate project requirements, design documents, prepare and submit capital plan approvals, prepare project bid information.
  • Ensure project documentation is current, accurate, and complete.
  • Support and define project scopes with internal and external customers and oversee and participate in procurement of services and materials to include FFE.

Level Definition

Position Title : Senior Project Manager

Grade : E09

Senior Project Manager is dependent upon having a funded position and on having a legitimate business need in the department.

This is not a natural progression path within the job family and must be approved by the department head and meet qualifications.

Requires the ability to perform highly complex and diverse duties under deadlines and operating constraints. Qualification is also based upon individual job performance.

Additional Job Requirements :

This is a senior level position functioning as the subject matter expert. Requires the ability to perform highly complex or unique special work assignments under deadlines and operating constraints.

Capable of performing the role of Project Manager for major company initiatives involving the coordination of activities of multiple business lines, departments, and technical disciplines.

Requires ability to coordinate complex technical issues and to develop plans and programs that implement large and complex corporate initiatives.

Provides leadership, oversight, and mentoring to junior project managers. Requires advanced working knowledge and technical expertise in area of responsibility and company policies / procedures.

Must be able to provide functional leadership.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Required : A combination of relevant work experience and / or education sufficient to perform the duties of the job may substitute to meet the total years required on a year-for-year basis.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, industrial management, engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of twelve (12) years professional project management / engineering experience to include developing project budgets and schedules.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP).

Preferred :

  • Master Certification in Project Management.
  • Logistics and procurement experience.
  • Other telecom industry or job specific certifications.

Required at ALL Levels

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS :

This position requires driving a company-owned vehicle, company provided vehicle, or a personal vehicle on behalf of the company.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, a satisfactory driving record, and successfully complete Defensive Driving course.

Must be able to drive when in remote communities and operate ATV-style vehicles if necessary.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and WORKING CONDITIONS :

  • Work is primarily sedentary, requiring daily routine computer usage.
  • Majority of work is performed in Anchorage with projects both in and out of town where indoor and outdoor work may be required.
  • Position requires travel to remote locations (which may include traveling in small aircraft) in Alaska for site surveys, meetings, and contract management / inspection purposes.
  • Ability to work shifts as assigned, work in standard office / home office setting, and operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to accurately communicate information and ideas to others effectively.
  • Physical agility and effort sufficient to perform job duties safely and effectively.
  • Ability to make valid judgments and decisions.
  • Available to work additional time on weekends, holidays, before or after normal work hours when necessary.
  • Must work well in a team environment and be able to work with a diverse group of people and customers.

Drug Testing : Participation in a DOT or non-DOT drug and alcohol testing program may be required to satisfy conditions of a contract or proposed contract with a business partner or client.

This includes pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return to duty, and follow-up testing.

The company and its subsidiaries operate in a 24 / 7 environment providing critical services to Alaskans and may need to respond to public health and safety matters or other business emergencies.

Due to business needs employees may be contacted outside of the core business hours to respond to the immediate emergency.

As such, you will be requested to provide emergency after hours contact numbers, to include your home and cell phone numbers if you have those services.
