About the Role

The New York Times Company is looking for an experienced leader to join us as Executive Director, Strategic Sourcing, who will be responsible for strategic sourcing across the Company.

You will be an expert in category management, sourcing strategy, and supplier relationship management. You will lead a team of sourcing professionals and motivate and inspire the team to model The Times’s values and behaviors throughout the execution of their work.

You will add new value through our vendor partnerships and enable our operations. Together with your team, you will work with senior leaders across the Company to develop The Times’ sourcing strategy, contract negotiation, supplier performance measurement, and category-specific recommendations.

You and your team will provide insights into the vendor landscape to result in positive outcomes, maximize value of investments and alignment to business objectives by determining the best vendors and value for the brand.

You will collaborate with company partners, Legal, Cybersecurity, and Finance, and external vendors.

You will report directly to the Senior Vice President, Financial Planning and Analysis. This is a hybrid position in the headquarters office in New York, NY three times a week.

Responsibilities :

Develop and implement across-the-company sourcing strategies that support our goals and ensure cost-effective procurement of goods and services.

Work with senior leaders across the Company to understand their strategies and influence the role suppliers play in achieving them.

Communicate with partners insights into our evolving spend profile, savings outcomes, and risk mitigation efforts, using interactions with the external marketplace on pricing, vendor, and technology trend insights.

Lead supplier diversity and sustainability projects, aligning them with our overarching strategy to establish the best processes.

Manage a team of category specialists to develop supplier and partner relationships delivering cost reduction and ongoing improvement in respective categories.

Collaborate with business leaders to institute top-tier supplier relationship management practices, establishing procedures for assessing supplier performance against contractual obligations, service levels, and business expectations.

Partner with project teams to improve the procure-to-pay platform (Coupa), contract management repository (Ironclad), and strategic sourcing technology solutions.

Lead critical negotiations and customer engagement in company-wide projects representing supplier and sourcing activities.

Monitor market trends and identify opportunities for innovation and cost savings.

Expert understanding of multi-step strategic sourcing strategies.

Experience managing internal customers and institutionalizing partner communications for input and agreement.

Cultivate relationships with both company partners and external audiences.

Demonstrate support and understanding of our and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

Basic Qualifications :

12+ years of strategic sourcing and supplier relations experience leading strategic sourcing teams.

6+ years of experience in category-specific sourcing in spend areas such as technology, software (SaaS), outsourced services, marketing, professional services, travel, and HR.

5+ years of experience in a people management position.

Bachelor’s degree.

Preferred Qualifications :

MBA or advanced degree.

Experience with year-over-year delivery of distinctive value from strategic supply chain activities and negotiation skills.

Experience with spend data analytics, and contract management systems.

The annual base pay range for this role is between $210,000.00 and $230,000.00.
