Position Title : Endoscopy Registered Nurse
Department : Endoscopy
Reports to : Endoscopy Nurse Manager
Job Summary : Provides safe and effective delivery of patient care, utilizing a systems theory approach through assessment, reassessment, goal setting, and outcome evaluation.
Will practice within the parameters of the Illinois Nursing and Advanced Practice Nursing Act. Practices autonomously and in accordance with professional nursing standards.
Responsible for Endoscopy call. Will guide and direct the endoscopy technician. Responsible for the interviewing, assessment, and screening of endoscopy patients.

Job Responsibilities :
- Supports patient’s rights and responsibilities, including respect of cultural, ethical and religious diversity.
- Provides age-appropriate and population specific patient care in a safe, skillful, accurate and efficient manner to adolescent (age 14 and older), adult, and geriatric populations.
- Assesses patient and family learning needs and provides ongoing education and evaluation. Documents readiness to learn, teaching barriers and outcomes.
- Completes documentation accurately and appropriately in a timely manner, according to hospital policies and procedures.
- Effectively utilizes the nursing process to ensure optimal nursing care and patient outcomes.
- Engages in activities to expand and / or enhance the professional nursing role, which includes integration of research and evidence based practice.

- Performs department maintenance duties.
- Demonstrates competency of pre-operative responsibilities as indicated in department.
- Demonstrates competency of post-operative responsibilities as indicated in department.
- Demonstrates competency of intra-op responsibilities as indicated in department.
- Demonstrates competency of circulating and scrubbing as applicable to hiring agreement.
- Delegates responsibilities to appropriate health care team members and monitors their activity and work performance.
- Participates in doing follow-op phone calls for Endoscopy patients.
- Participates in interviewing, assessment, and screening of Endoscopy patients.
- Orders lab work appropriately and initiates appropriate orders.
- Accurately completes the PAT / Pre-op Checklist.
- Independently follows up on appropriate needs for patients.
- If responsible for taking Endoscopy Tech call will maintains technical skills relating to scopes / processors / Medivators.
Education Requirements and Other Requirements :
Education Level : Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Certification / Licensure : Illinois licensed or eligible. CPR certification required.
Experience Requirements : Prior nursing experience with moderate sedation and cardiac monitoring preferred. ACLS provider status required or completed within one year.
Critical care experience preferred. Applicant will be required to complete orientation and annual competency standards as outlined by hospital policies and unit standards.
Qualifications
Education Requirements and Other Requirements :
Education Level : High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of an accredited surgical technology program, medical technician program, or one year endoscopy technician experience or equivalent.
Certification / Licensure : CPR certification required. GI Technical Specialist preferred.
Experience Requirements : Preferred experience in providing or assisting in patient care and knowledge of medical terminology.
Basic knowledge of computers, aseptic technique, and materials management techniques.
