Responsibilities
Job Summary :
The music therapist uses music musical instruments and therapy techniques within a therapeutic relationship to achieve non-musical goals including but not limited to physical and cognitive rehabilitation emotional and psychological therapy palliative care relaxation and stress reduction.
These goals can be achieved through group and / or individual settings. The MT-BC hired for Dignity Healths Stroke Survivor Chimes Choir will conduct a one hour weekly (four times per month) chimes choir rehearsal with a group of stroke survivors for the purpose of physical cognitive and emotional therapeutic goals as well as increasing awareness of stroke prevention.
The rehearsals will culminate in 2-4 performances per year in the community. The employment period is 12 months. Requirements : MT-BC credentials from the Certification Board of Music Therapists (CBMT) experience working with CVA / TBI survivors.
Job Responsibilites :
Chimes ChoirConducts four, one-hour chimes choir rehearsals per month.Schedules chimes choir rehearsals (usually weekly) in collaboration with the choir members.
Visually inspects chimes (or other instruments) for obvious signs of damage and report pertinent findings.
- Assessment and Planning Develops goals for the chimes choir in collaboration with the choir members. Provides periodic evaluation and appropriate modification as necessary.
- ImplementationStrives for the highest level and quality of music involvement consistent with the abilities of the group and its individual members.
Selects music based upon evaluation of the abilities of the group and its individual members.Selects music, in collaboration with the choir, which reflects the culture of the group and is consistent with the values of the organization.
- EvaluationProvides feedback to the group and individual members as needed to facilitate therapeutic goals.
- PerformancesConducts up to four public performances per year to be arranged in collaboration with the chimes choir members.
The goal of the performances is to raise community awareness of stroke and should be planned in collaboration with the Stroke Program Coordinators from both Mercy Gilbert and Chandler Regional Medical Centers.
Qualifications
Minimum :
Experience and Education :
Experience (during educational preparation or formal employment) working with adults affected by stroke and / or traumatic brain injury required.
Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy from an accredited university required.
Licensure :
Preferred : Music Therapist (MT-BC) Board Certified by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT).
