Job Description

The Sr Manager, Research Business Operations is accountable for performing business planning and analysis for the Research organization and supporting Research business process excellence.

Reporting into the Head of Research Strategy and Operations, an individual in this role integrates budget, contracting, purchasing, and resourcing data and information from across the business to create an overall holistic view of Research operational health.

The individual uses these data to develop business insights that influence senior Research stakeholders in the proactive management and optimization of Research resource allocation and financial budgets.

This role also works within Research and with other functions within Biogen to optimize contracting, annual operating planning, financial and resource tracking, and other business processes in support of operational excellence in achieving research and portfolio goals.

What You’ll Do

  • Drive regular strategic budget and resource management reviews to enable proactive resourcing decisions and thoughtful trade-offs across Research
  • Assimilate data and information from across the business into metrics and reporting that capture a holistic view of Research operational health.
  • Develop data-driven business insights and perform scenario planning that informs the management and optimization of Research resource allocation and financial spend.
  • Serve as an expert resource for Research employees for navigating Biogen processes that impact Research work and timelines (contracting, purchasing, vendor risk management, IT, etc.).
  • Serve as the primary point of coordination in Research for Annual Operating Planning and other Biogen business planning processes.
  • Lead or support other initiatives in Research related to business planning, ways of working, functional efficiency, and process improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree with demonstrated relevance to the role, along with a minimum of 7-10 years experience working in biopharma in roles related to finance, R&D operations, business operations, or project management.
  • Understanding of preclinical drug development and business processes related to preclinical R&D
  • Strong budget management and financial acumen
  • Analytical mindset, with a demonstrated ability to generate actionable insights from data
  • High level of organizational and planning skills, paired with strong attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, and disciplined in solving problems and achieving goals
  • Proficient in business software and visualization tools
