MAJOR FUNCTION :
Manages the daily operations of the X-ray department and other Medical Imaging areas if necessary. Supervises, instructs, evaluates, and coaches / counsels' employees.
Maintains records and procedures for maintenance, in-service, education, radiation exposure reporting, timekeeping, employee evaluations, hiring, discipline and supplies for area.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Education & Experience :
- Graduate from an approved, accredited School of Radiology.
- 5 years' experience as an X-ray Technologist.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
Certification / Licensure :
- ARRT required, current licensure by the State of New Jersey.
- AHA CPR certified.
Knowledge & Skills :
- Demonstrates knowledge of and follows hospital policies and procedures regarding abuse and neglect.
- Must have vast knowledge of all areas of X-ray and have the ability to work independently.

Position Responsibilities
Provides direction for all technical and clerical aspects of X-ray as directed by manager.
- Keeps current on X-ray safety procedures and enacts them in the Department.
- Responsible for the management of the daily operations of the X-ray Department.
- Responsible for staffing and on call rotation schedules if needed. Ensures department functions effectively and efficiently with adequate staffing.
Reports any imaging or patient related problems to leadership of the department.
- Responsible for timely submission of staff evaluations. Ensures competency of all staff members through yearly completion of Competency Check lists.
- Participates in the development and evaluation of policies and procedures related to X-ray. Informs staff of policy changes and additions.
Ensures that both the infection control policies as well as Radiology policies are followed.
- Performs all X-ray functions; assists physicians in all procedures. Prepares X-ray room, equipment, medications, and materials as needed for patients undergoing X-ray exams.
- Acts as patient advocate. Assists in all aspects of patient care as well as patient and family. Pre and post procedural education.
- Utilizes verbal and written communications with physicians, nurses and nursing units regarding patient's status, treatment, and procedural outcomes.
- Participates in the budgetary process by encouraging cost containment by managing the appropriate use of supplies and materials.
Maintains inventory Par levels on all supplies.
Maintains all equipment in accordance with equipment manufacturer's recommendations in conjunction with the Radiation Safety Officer and BioMed.
Ensures safety of the environment.
- Participates in employee disciplinary action process when necessary.
- Provides in-service for technologists and other ancillary staff when necessary.
- Displays proficiency in the order entry process in the medical imaging EMR.
- Understands the administration and use of radiographic contrast material and follows protocol for pharmacy review of medication.
- Follows department and hospital wide pain management policies. Ensures that patient's pain is addressed and documented.
- Responsible for data collection and reporting on unit-based performance measures. Provides procedural statistics to management in a timely manner.
- Identifies own learning needs and obtains necessary education to meet the requirements of the position.
- Participates in staff meetings, committees, and project teams in a collaborative manner to meet institutional and departmental goals
- Delivers clear and compelling messages to individuals and groups whether face-to-face or in writing, actively listens and readily shares information with key stakeholders in a timely manner using the most effective method.

- Orders supplies for the Department, signs, and codes invoices, as necessary.
- Assists Director / manager or designate with planning of DNV audits and other agencies, such as but not limited to state and ACR inspections.
- Maintains all radiation emitting equipment throughout the Radiology Department to meet the requirements of the NJDEP.
- Assists radiologists, other licensed physicians and nursing personnel performing procedures in conjunction with X-ray equipment.
- Implements and maintains all film badge processes throughout the Radiology department and other supporting departments within the medical center.
