GENERAL DUTIES
Under supervision, test, maintains, repairs and replaces various types of thermostats and related equipment used for the control of heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems; performs related work.
Installs tubing, pipe and fittings in connection with various types of thermostats and related equipment used for the control of heating, ventilating and air conditioning.
Checks existing control installations to determine nature and cause of trouble and makes necessary repairs and / or adjustments.
Uses pneumatic and / or electrical devices to check control installations.
Sets and calibrates thermostats on walls and fixtures.
Requisitions parts as required.
Supervises assigned personnel as required.
Keeps work records.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The New York Power Authority (NYPA) has partnered with the City University of New York (CUNY) to implement a boiler plant upgrade at Bronx Community College that will improve the reliability of the campus’ primary heating systems.
NYPA’s replacement of the campus’ 40-year old-boiler plant along with its controls and fuel oil tanks, is a significant upgrade to the campus’ energy reliability, improving safety and comfort for the school’s faculty and students.
These upgrades represent the vital ongoing effort to reduce energy consumption as we maintain and modernize the infrastructure on our campus.
NYPY has installed a temporary boiler system as an interim measure until the new plant comes online.
Additionally, the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) is overseeing a major upgrade of BCC’s building management systems (BMS).
This $25M project will :
Upgrade / replace existing Siemens BMS in (25) buildings throughout the campus - an excess of 1M combined square feet.
Project Features will include :
ASHRAE Standard 135 Compliance for BACnet Open systems, compatible with latest iteration of ASHRAE Guideline 36
Enable monitoring & measurement of energy savings / carbon emission reduction metrics
LL97 Compliance to meet energy efficiency & greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction
Software upgrade to non-proprietary, open-protocol, and
Graphic optimization
This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing existing pneumatic HVAC control systems in its secondary building heating systems, and helping to implement the campus’ conversion to direct digital control systems that will facilitate improved BMS / BAS operations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a thermostat repairer acquired within the last ten years; OR
At least three years of experience as described in 1 above and either sufficient experience in the thermostat repairing field as a helper or apprentice, or sufficient training of a relevant nature acquired in an approved trade, technical or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of the remaining experience. Six months
of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of the above helper or apprenticeship experience or training.
COMPENSATION
The salary commensurate with education and experience is $103,883.
