SUMMARY :

Plans and implementsspecific treatment programs for individual patients according tothe principles and practices of Physical Therapy.

Collaborates withinterdisciplinary treatment team. The Staff Physical Therapist isaccountable to the Clinical Coordinator of RehabServices.

DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Reviewsrequisitions for Physical Therapy.

a. Interviewspatients evaluates patients physical condition andneeds.

2. Develops a program of correctiveexercise and treatment for assigned patients.

a.Determines proper equipment usage application and body positionadjusting as necessary in the administration of such treatments asexercise gait training soft tissue mobility whirlpool hot packsultrasound paraffin ice packs electrical stimulation andtraction.

b. Instructs patients on segments ofthe program including proper use of wheelchairs crutches canesbraces and prosthetic appliances and devices.

c.Recommends modification or changes in the patients program based onown evaluation of progress.

d. Confers asnecessary with physicians concerning alternativesavailable.

3. Prepares written documentation asrequired by the profession and the department such as evaluationresults treatment plans progress reports and dischargesummaries.

4. Communicates observations facts andcomments with nursing and interdisciplinary team members to ensureefficient coordination of the overall health care plan.

5. Provides guidance and direction to thosestaff members assigned to assist in patientcare.

6. Maintains department policies proceduresobjectives and quality initiative program safety and infectioncontrol.

a. Adheres to hospital wide safetyresponsibilities :

1. Maintains a safeenvironment for patients visitors and otheremployees.

2. Maintains a working knowledge ofall hospital safety policies and procedures (including fire safetyand disaster protocol).

3. Follows all safetypractices on equipment.

4. Uses all safetydevices on equipment and insures it is in proper workingcondition.

5. Wears safety clothing glassesgloves shoes etc. when required and respects Universal Precautionsas indicated.

6. Reports any unsafe act orcondition to his / her supervisor.

7. Attendssafety programs when they are conducted.

b. Isfamiliar with and adheres to Policy and Procedure manual for thedepartment.

c. Assists where indicated inassisting the Clinical Coordinator with quality initiativeindicators.

7. Assists in care and maintenance ofdepartment equipment and supplies.

8. Attendsmeetings as required and participate on committees asdirected.

9. Assists in transport of patients toand from PT Department as the need shouldarise.

10. Assumes the duties andresponsibilities of the Senior Therapists in his / herabsence.

11. Enhances professional growth anddevelopment through participation in educational programs currentliterature inservice meetings workshops etc.

12. Is responsible for attending all annual mandatory educationalprograms as required by position.

13. Providesage appropriate care to neonate infant children adolescent adultand geriatric patients.

14. Employee understandsand demonstrates the importance of satisfying the needs of thecustomer / patient by interacting with him / her in a friendly andcaring way being attentive to the customers needs bothpsychologically and physically and by taking the initiative tomaintain communication with the customer in order to provide asecure and pleasantexperience.

• EDUCATION :
• Must be licensed or eligible toobtain a license to practice physical therapy in NYS at the time ofhire.
• EXPERIENCE :
• Experience in a hospitalsettingpreferred.
• CARDIOPULMONARYRESUSCITATION (CPR)REQUIREMENTS :
• Basic Life Support(BLS) required within 90 days of hiredate.
• PHYSICALDEMANDS :
• Appreciable physicaleffort or strain; occasionally repetitive efforts. May involvelifting pushing pulling. Must be able to lift at least thirty (30)pounds independently and at least onehundred and fifty (150) poundswith assistance of anotherperson.
• EXPOSURECATEGORY :
• Category II. Tasksthat involve no exposure to blood body fluids or tissues.Employment however may require performing unplanned Category Itasks.
• INFECTIONCONTROL :
• Performs all aspects ofuniversal precautions when engaging in patientcare.
