Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director of Counseling and Psychological Services and the Student Health Center (Senior Director), the Associate Director of Counseling and Psychological Services provides innovative, strategic, and comprehensive leadership for the daily operations of the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) department.

The primary role of this position is to oversee and coordinate all CAPS programs and services including : direct counseling to students, group counseling, outreach, training, and consultation services to the SSU Community.

In addition, this role will supervise the Confidential Sexual Assault Victim’s Advocate Coordinator. This role will also be responsible for and provide support on technology systems utilized by CAPS (.

Titanium) and the Student Health Center (., Point N Click). The incumbent serves as a critical member of the mental and physical health leadership team and collaborates closely with the Senior Director, Student Health Center, and other division and campus partners (.

Residential Education, Office for Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination, Dean of Students, Disability Services, University Police, to design, implement and evaluate mental health programs, especially in the area of primary prevention, for a largely undergraduate residential population.

Additionally, in the absence of the Senior Director, the incumbent acts on their behalf for CAPS.

Key Qualifications

This position requires five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience in psychological practice applicable to an outpatient or college health environment, along with five or more years of increasingly strong administrative and leadership skills.

Prior work in college mental health or similar clinical environment is strongly preferred. Doctoral level degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, and / or related field and CA licensure is required.

Must possess the ability to identify and rectify legal and ethical problems. Must possess strong clinical and risk management skills and the ability to identify student needs and to address these needs through quality psychological care and innovative delivery systems.

Advanced verbal and written communication skills for composing, editing, and finalizing correspondence and reports, leading meetings, delivering presentations, and providing clear direction required.

Higher education experience is highly preferred. Experience with financial and budgetary software, experience with CMS, student and human resources administration preferred.

Advanced proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) required. Ability to manage and troubleshoot Electronic Health Record systems required.

Knowledge of Google Suite and PeopleSoft preferred.

the ability to deal with stressful situations while maintaining composure and contribute to a collaborative environment utilizing exemplary communication and problem solving skills as necessary.

Must have strong organizational and project management skills and the ability to manage multiple time-sensitive projects and competing priorities simultaneously, adjusting quickly to changes needed on a daily basis.

Must have the ability to effectively communicate with all levels within the university and establish and maintain productive and effective, inclusive working relationships amongst diverse populations including staff, faculty, administration, students, and other internal and external constituents.

Must be able to accept constructive feedback and work cooperatively in group situations.

Salary and Benefits

Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $9,700 - $10,230 a month.

This position is a member of the Management Personnel Plan and serves at the pleasure of the President.

This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave.

In addition, 15 paid holidays are offered each year. Sonoma State University is also a Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF) Employer.
