ArtCenter College of Design is searching for an experienced Cataloging & Technical Services Librarian to join our team.

The salary range for this position : $69, - 80,

Finalsalary is based on education, experience, skills relevant to therole, and internal equity.

Reporting to the Director, Collections and Systems, this position is responsible for creating and maintaining access to print, electronic, and multimedia format material, serving as the primary contact to OCLC, and working closely with the department on ILS maintenance.

The incumbent will oversee the Assistant Cataloger, student workers, and occasional interns or temporary catalogers. This position will help to develop and administer cross-departmental strategic projects such as implementing new catalog-related technologies and creating efficient workflows.

Manages multi-departmental projects and trains staff.

This is a full-time position with a schedule of Monday through Friday, 9 / 10 to 5 / 6 The position is eligible for flexible scheduling and can be performed as a hybrid combination of in-person (at least 2 days / week) and remote as a condition of employment.

Essential Functions

Bibliographic Technical Services 35%

  • Perform and advise on data migration, harvesting, and syncing projects for discovery services, catalog enhancements, institutional repositories, etc.
  • Provide expertise regarding innovations and trends relating to the discovery and access of library materials and proactively work in partnership with departmental staff to improve access and workflow efficiencies
  • Refresh and maintain OCLC holdings data to include the full cycle of creation, updating and deletion based on library holdings
  • Manage conversion projects such as Dewey to LC Classification, and AACR2 to RDA
  • Automate manual processes through use of schedulers and / or APIs
  • Direct batch loading and deleting activities, global editing of local bibliographic and metadata records, and maintenance and creation of record load profiles and cataloging templates
  • Maintain digital records, databases and other online resources through ongoing management of custom catalogs, importing / exporting vendor records into ILS, and adding local fields through batch processes
  • Problem solve and troubleshoot technical issues
  • Assist with installation, integration, migration and implementation of library software
  • Provide technical guidance with data querying and automation of processes for library staff

Cataloging 25%

  • Perform original, complex adaptive, and copy cataloging in all formats and maintain records for library materials to facilitate access and discovery
  • Catalog materials in a variety of subject areas focusing on art and design through use of the integrated library system and standards for classification and subject terminology
  • Create authorities by individual downloads from OCLC or originally; work to convert legacy non-OCLC / LCSH authorities to these forms;

follow national standards along with customized departmental standards

Provide expertise in the areas of cataloging and serials to library staff

Maintaining Data Integrity 20%

  • Responsible for oversight of all aspects of record quality, authority control, and catalog integrity
  • Assess metadata accuracy, ensure records meet local and national standards, and remediate problems
  • Perform regular maintenance of metadata to keep up with changes in standards, formats, shifting collections, vendor platforms, as well as improving user experience and integrating additional thesauri
  • Participate in inventory projects and serve as the project manager for ongoing deselection and storage of the collection including running committee meetings, transforming data for purposes of analysis by research librarians, importing / exporting of holdings from catalog, documenting and deleting records
  • Serve as the contact to book deaccessioning vendors, organizing and scheduling all freight shipments and liaising with internal receiving department for scheduled shipments
  • Integrate records with storage retrieval and shared print program ensuring metadata linking across platforms
  • Develop training materials and documentation for library staff in the application of metadata standards and cataloging policy and procedures, workflows, and local practice on wiki and document-sharing sites

Department Operations 10%

  • Enforce all College policies and work with the department of environment health and safety to maintain a safe and secure work and learning environment for students, faculty and staff
  • Oversee recruitment, hiring, onboarding, learning and development, and fair and equitable compensation grid placement staff;
  • oversee performance evaluation process, ensure consistent use of all applicable policies and procedures, including Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA);

counsel, discipline and make recommendations in terminations

Coordinate, organize, onboard and track the department’s student workers, authorize and submit copies of Student Employment Authorization Forms to Employee Experience;

maintain digital records

  • Manage workflows and projects using cloud-based project management platform
  • Collaborate with the department to develop goals, priorities, policies, and procedures

Statistics and Data Analysis 5%

  • Provide assistance with collection analyses
  • Query data and gather statistics for analysis, reporting, surveys, and evidence-based decision making
  • Facilitate analytic reporting from various systems and use a variety of software tools for the extraction, manipulation, and visualization of data for use by various systems
  • Utilize Google Analytics for analyzing search terms to isolate areas of student research needs

Non-Essential 5%

  • Serve on educational or college-wide committees, work groups, task forces and / or councils
  • Maintain memberships and active involvement in applicable professional organizations
  • A commitment to professional service by serving on Library and College committees and engagement in professional organizations and networks relevant to libraries and archives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications :

  • MLS / MLIS from an ALA-accredited program or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Thorough knowledge of electronic and traditional cataloging, classification, and authority control, as well as current standards, trends, and emerging technologies in collections management
  • At least 3 years professional cataloging and technical services experience in an academic, special, or public library and a minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience
  • Innovative and tech-savvy with strong problem-solving skills and an aptitude for troubleshooting
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain good working relationships with various internal and external stakeholders related to the ongoing operations of the library, including faculty, staff, students, and alumni
  • Demonstrated experience organizing or managing projects, balancing priorities, and setting and meeting deadlines
  • Proficiency in data analysis and manipulating data using tools such as Excel, MarcEdit, OpenRefine
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Forward thinking and able to adapt and learn new skills
  • Commitment to user-centered library services
  • Demonstrated experience in cultivating the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, access and belonging into work practices within ArtCenter’s diverse communities
  • Awareness of the role of knowledge systems in systemic oppression, remediation of institutional biases inherent in cataloging and metadata, and collection assessments of diverse cultures and perspectives

Preferred Qualifications

  • Academic library experience with subject knowledge of art and design
  • Experience with Innovative Interfaces’ Sierra ILS, OCLC Collection Manager, ClassWeb
  • Technical services skills such as FTP, scripting, and querying data with regular expressions and / or SQL
  • Experience with batch loading, editing, and deleting of MARC catalog records
