CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY
Recreation Assistants are responsible for supporting the coordination and delivery of recreational services to all program participants.
Employees in this category may have varying duties depending on the area of assignment, but their primary function will be to provide all manner of assistance to ensure recreational programs and activities are operated safely and efficiently.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Monitors participants’ actions and activities in accordance with established timeframes and guidelines, safety policies and procedures, and operating requirements.
- Plans, organizes, coordinates and instructs a variety of indoor and outdoor recreational activities and supports appropriate staffing initiatives.
- Responds to inquiries regarding program specifics from various entities; e.g., parents, program participants, the general public and staff.
- Develops youth participation and interest in assigned recreational facilities.
- Opens and closes recreational programming facilities according to established events and program schedules which include checking in registered participants and guests to the facility and organizing and maintaining records of attendance / participation.
- Performs routine custodial and maintenance tasks to ensure facilities and grounds are clean and secure and equipment is safe to operate.
- Prepares accurate reports as needed and organizes and maintains activity / program records.
- Creates promotional materials for special events utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, social media platforms and other electronic outlets.
- Assists in coordinating the day-to-day operational and maintenance activities affiliated with the marina, to include oversight of the wet and dry storage rental process.
- Utilizes RecTrac for course registrations, fees and other operational functions and transactions.

QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma / GED.
- Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.
- Firsthand experience working with youth or adults in recreational sports, arts or related activities.
- Knowledge of principles, practices and philosophy of recreation.
- Valid First Aid / CPR certification or the ability to obtain certification within the first ninety (90) days of hire.
- Technical proficiency with recreational management systems and databases; e.g., RecTrac.
- Ability to work outside of regular business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as directed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Tasks include the intermittent performance of physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and involving the lifting, carrying, pushing, and / or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Tasks are regularly performed outside which may include the potential for exposure to inclement weather conditions.
