DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Perform repair work and scheduled maintenance for boats and watercraft. Perform different diagnostic tests to ensure proper function of marine engines and electrical systems.
Troubleshoot root cause of various mechanical issues and replace broken or worn-out parts when needed. Perform all necessary seasonal storage and maintenance requirements.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identify mechanical problems, either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment and make appropriate repairs.
- Travel to marina or dock as needed to perform repairs or maintenance.
- Perform tests on specific parts and systems to confirm proper mechanical function.
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on various boat systems, including, but not limited to, marine engines, electrical systems, and marine hydraulic systems.
- Perform operational tests as needed, which may include test driving the boat to ensure repairs are completed correctly.
- Ensure vessels are properly winterized and stored at the end of the season.
- Perform all necessary checks, tune-ups and any other mechanical procedures to get vessels ready for use each spring.
- Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures and regulations.
- Support all safety, food quality and sanitation initiatives and policies.
- Follow SugarCreek safety rules and procedures.
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education : High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
Experience : Three to five years' experience as a boat or marine mechanic required.
Certification or Licensure Requirements : None.
ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Possess extensive knowledge of all aspects of boat repair.
- Possess excellent mechanical repair skills.
- Possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and be able to use those skills to diagnose mechanical issues.
- Possess strong proficiency with computer diagnostic equipment and software.
- Able to read service and repair manuals and work orders.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
No unusual physical requirements. Physical requirements are consistent with boat mechanic positions, including some sitting with some standing / walking required.
Other physical activity like using stairs or occasionally moving items weighing less than 50lbs may be required as needed.
Some travel may be required in between locations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Some travel to other locations is required.
Most work is performed in an auto repair shop with close proximity to heavy and hazardous machinery.Safety wear is required, including gloves, safety glasses, face shields, ear plugs.
Some work is performed in a comfortable, office environment.Some work is performed outside of the auto repair shop at marinas or boat docks where vessels are located.
