Job Description

The Director of Bridge Software Development is a key role within Michael Baker International for an established industry leader and technical specialist.

Leveraging technical expertise and effective communication, the Director will collaborate closely with the National Technical Director of Bridge Technologies to support strategic initiatives for the advancement of technologies related to BIM, digital twins, commercial software interface, software development and maintenance, automation, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and technology development and adoption to improve operational efficiency in the execution of projects.

Additionally, the Director will serve as senior technical advisor and mentor for those engaged in bridge software and tool development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership :

  • Collaborate in the development and implementation of a strategic roadmap for bridge technology and software projects, ensuring alignment with Michael Baker International's National Bridge Practice goals.
  • Assist in communication, education, and Bridge Practice outreach of identified initiatives.

Technology & Software Development Management and Implementation :

  • Assist with driving the development and integration of innovative technologies for bridge design, bridge load rating, bridge health monitoring, asset management, etc.
  • Manage the development of engineering automation tools and model-based workflows for the execution of bridge engineering work tasks and delivery of projects.
  • Ensure the application of best practices in software development and technology implementation.
  • Manage current and future software and technology projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
  • Define project scopes, objectives, and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Manage project teams, providing guidance and support to ensure project success.
  • Remain hands-on and perform software development coding activities for modernizations, routine maintenance, enhancements, and debugging of existing (or future) client specific analysis and design software.

Client Engagement and Business Development :

  • Engage with clients to understand their needs and present solutions that align with Michael Baker International's capabilities and objectives, while collaborating with the National Technical Director of Bridge Technologies when appropriate
  • Identify and capture new business opportunities related to bridge software.
  • Prepare and deliver proposals and presentations to potential clients and stakeholders.

Team Leadership and Development :

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of software engineers and project managers.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team.

Collaboration and Communication :

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Bridge Engineering, Bridge Software and relevant Information Technology teams to deliver state of the art bridge technology solutions.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with all stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment on project objectives and progress.

Budget and Resource Management :

  • Manage budgets for technology and software projects, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and cost-effective solutions.
  • Identify funding opportunities and manage financial aspects of project development.

Performance Monitoring and Reporting :

  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor project progress and team performance.
  • Prepare regular reports for senior management, highlighting achievements, challenges, and recommendations.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Civil / Structural Engineering.
  • Master's degree in Information Technology Management.
  • 20+ years of software development and technical management experience related to bridge engineering, bridge load rating, asset management and technology leadership.
  • Passion for advancing software development and technology in bridge engineering.
  • Ability to effectively network and influence at peer levels.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, self-starter, and the drive to be a leader in the company and a technology innovation champion.
  • Ability to develop creative and effective technology-driven solutions for complex challenges.
  • Solid communication and relationship building skills, both internally and externally.

COMPENSATION

The approximate compensation range for this position is $132,500 to $185,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.

Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
