The YMCA of South Florida is looking for a highly motivated and energetic Master Swim coach to join and help build our Masters Swim Team.
The incumbent in this role would primarily work early mornings to lead our available master's practices. Currently, we plan to have practice times from 5 : 00-6 : 00 am and 7 : 00-8 : 00 am on 2-3 weekday mornings.
A successful candidate must demonstrate a proven aptitude for coaching as illustrated by a strong work ethic, organizational skills, computer skills, and the ability to interact professionally.
The successful candidate must work closely with the other coaches in carrying out the philosophy and objectives of the YMCA of South Florida Master Swim Team.
This is a part-time position and pay will be commensurate with experience. However, with the evolving
nature of the swimming industry, opportunities for more hours and career growth become readily available depending on the successful candidate's future performance and commitment to excellence.
Essential Functions / Job Duties :
Duties for the coach include, but are not limited to :
- Motivating swimmers
- Assisting with other group times as needed
- Attending staff meetings as scheduled
- Attending swimming meets as needed on seldom
- Attending a team function here and there on seldom occasions
- All other functions deemed necessary
Assigned Hours :
The Head Swim Coach and / or AED of Aquatics will determine Hours. Hours are not guaranteed as a set per week, but will fluctuate depending on pool schedule, practice schedule, swim meets, number of participants, and other staff.

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities / Position Requirements :
Minimum Qualifications :
- High School Diploma and / or GED.
- Strong understanding of the sport of swimming and the rules and regulations.
- A sound understanding of stroke mechanics and training techniques.
- 3+ years of competitive swimming experience.
- Strong communication skills (both oral and written).
- Communicate effectively and timely with the coaching staff and swimmers as needed.
- Must have / demonstrate professionalism, decision-making skills, and a willingness to follow directives from the Association Director of Competitive Aquatics.
- Individual characteristics : positive, energetic, flexible, passionate, team-oriented etc.
- Must have, or obtain, before coaching on deck : Adult & Pediatric / Child CPR and AED, First Aid, Safety Training for Swim Coaches, and all applicable Background checks.
- Must have, or be willing to learn, basic working knowledge of team's computer computer software.
- Must have a desire to learn and continue coaching education.
- Bilingual, English and Spanish, a plus.
- Able to respond in emergency situations.
Preferred Qualifications :
- 2+ years of coaching experience.
- Preference is given to swimming experience at a college level.
- Experience with swim team- related software.
