ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Works as a senior member or member of a crew to perform journey and advanced level HVAC work in the installation, repair, maintenance and troubleshooting of HVAC equipment, controls and devices.
- Installs, maintains and repairs HVAC equipment, controls and devices such as variable air volume units, heat-pumps, air conditioning units, air flow systems, refrigeration systems and related control devices
- Performs electrical repair and installation work on appliances, timing devices, electric heating units, exhaust systems, and thermostats.
- Isolates and corrects malfunctions in equipment a routine recurring nature; uses basic electronic and specialized diagnostic equipment.
- Disassembles, cleans, repairs, and reassembles HVAC equipment, controls and devices.
- Tests, maintains, and repairs all emergency and back-up equipment.
- Follows a predetermined schedule of preventive maintenance on equipment to check for proper operation.
- Performs manual labor tasks including material and equipment handling, maintaining shop area, stocking and organizing supplies and tools.
- Evaluates job requests, prioritizes requests, determines equipment, materials and labor requirements, completes assignments and installs as required.
- Performs work in other trades areas such as electrical, carpentry, plumbing and or building trades fields.
- Develops and maintains a working knowledge of existing and proposed school buildings and facilities.
- Provides lead worker functions for crew; organizing workflow, equipment and diagnosing difficult situations.
- Performs preventive maintenance monitoring and preventive repairs.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school supplemented by course work in technical or trade skills. 3 to 5 years related experience;
or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Possession of valid North Carolina CDL driver’s license is required. If you do not have a valid North Carolina CDL driver’s license at the time of employment, you will have twelve months to obtain the North Carolina CDL driver’s license.
- Possession of a North Carolina heating and air conditioning license.
- Possession of an approved Refrigerate Handling Certificate
- Thorough knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment used in the HVAC and electrical trades.
- Thorough knowledge of safety regulations, occupational hazards and related safety precautions in the work.
- Considerable knowledge of the principles and techniques of related building, plumbing, carpentry and mechanical trades.
- Skill in the use and care of assigned tools and equipment.
- Ability to diagnose and repair problems and plan and organize appropriate corrective action.
- Ability to direct the work of subordinate staff and crews.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to exercise independent initiative.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the general public.
PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS
Must be able to physically perform the basic life functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, and hearing.
Must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 50 pounds of force frequently;
and / or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must possess the visual acuity to operate equipment and distinguish details, read and interpret manuals and guidelines relating to HVAC equipment, use measuring and testing devices, assemble and fabricate parts, and prepare simple records.
