Required Skills
- B.S. in Information Technology, Data Management, Computer Science or a related field required.
- 5+ years of proven experience in developing and implementing data governance at an enterprise level.
- Exhibit ability to partner and coordinate data initiatives across multiple teams and functions to ensure adherence to best practices and meet data governance objectives.
- Database design experience and experience with data modeling tools like Erwin etc.
- Proficiency in using data management tools and platforms, such as data cataloging software, data quality tools), and data governance platforms
- Experience with Big Query, SQL Mesh (or similar SQL-based cloud platform).
- Strong SQL skills.
- Using version control systems (e.g., Git) to manage changes to data governance policies, procedures, and documentation
- Experience with leading vendor tools to support data governance activities
- Excellent communication and business writing skills, including ability to draft business requirements.
- Ability to rapidly comprehend changes to key business processes and the impact on overall Data Governance framework.
- Flexibility to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity, and rapid change.
- Advanced analytical skills.
- High level of organization and attention to detail.
- Self-starter attitude with the ability to work independently.
- Knowledge of legal, compliance, and regulatory issues impacting data.
- Experience in finance preferred.
Responsibilities
- The role of the Senior Manager of Data Modeling and Governance is to develop, implement, and maintain enterprise ontologies in support of Toorak’s Data Strategy
- Lead sourcing and synthesis of Data Standardization and Semantics discovery efforts turning insights into actionable strategies that will define the priorities for the team and rally stakeholders to the vision
- Own and prioritize the long-term (12-18 months) Ontology and Data Modeling roadmap to deliver on business outcomes, working closely with a cross-functional team to ensure that all the right resources are aligned to ensure that your team will be successful
- Understand how ontology and data models fit into the larger ecosystem, anticipating impacts from changes in other parts of the business.
- Communicate and advocate the value of Toorak's efforts in ontologies, semantics, and standardization and proactively leverage relationships throughout the ecosystem to align to your vision and influence prioritization across partner teams
- Contribute to data integration and mapping efforts to harmonize data.
- Champion standards, guidelines, and direction for ontology, data modeling, semantics and Data Standardization in general at Toorak.
- Providing training, feedback, and support to users on the usage of data provided
