Job Summary
The General Accountant will be responsible for general ledger postings for various accounts and preparation of monthly account reconciliations as directed by the senior accountant, scanning / depositing checks received at the corporate office, preparation of daily liquidity reports, processing of legal invoices, validation of vendor changes in accordance with company policy, preparation of various statutory / census reporting, and other tasks as assigned by the senior accountant or general accounting team.
Duties and Responsibilities
- General ledger postings and account reconciliations : The general accountant will be responsible for posting journal entries based on transactional activity for assigned accounts as well as reconciling those accounts during the month end close process in accordance with the close timeline.
- Scanning / depositing miscellaneous checks and preparation of account postings : Checks are received at site locations or other corporate offices and then sent to the Overland Park office for deposit.
This role will be responsible for scanning / depositing checks and preparing the journal entries to post activity to the appropriate accounts.
- Sales tax analysis and correction : Review sales tax postings in the exception account, analyze the invoice and prepare postings to ensure sales tax is appropriately reclassed for recovery in Canada.
- Preparation of company-wide daily liquidity reports : A daily liquidity report is prepared each day summarizing cash balances across the entire organization in addition to the outstanding checks to present current cash position.
The general accountant will be responsible for the initial preparation of this report.
- Creation of purchase orders and processing of legal invoices : Creation of annual purchase orders for legal spend through use of Ariba or SAP, obtain approvals, and then process legal invoices received against the purchase orders or through the non-PO invoice approval process.
- Preparation of various statutory / census reporting : The Company is subject to various Bureau of Economic Analysis reporting, Census Bureau reporting, and other governmental surveys.
This role will assist in the initial preparation of various surveys / reports as assigned.
Validation of vendor changes to be processed by master data : A shared services department is established in Santiago, Chile for the overall processing invoices in the accounts payable department;
however, any changes to the vendor master data (primarily bank changes) will be validated by this role by collecting data from the vendor, verbal confirmation, and then submitting appropriate data to the master data team for update.
Audit requests : This role will assist in preparation of interim, year-end, and private equity owner year-end audit requests as required based on selections by external auditors.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required :
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- Minimum of one to two (1-2) years in a corporate accounting function at a large or medium sized company (public or private)
- Strong organizational and time management skills in order to meet deadlines
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work across multiple geographic locations of the company
- Team player capable of multi-tasking and providing results within deadlines

- Experience with SAP ERP (version ECC) or Microsoft Navision functionality
