The MGA Underwriter for Trucking and Sand & Gravel Program is part of an MGA (Managing General Agent) and is responsible for multiple lines of business related to the Motor Carrier Industry.
The MGA Underwriter will exercise a high level of due diligence in the selection, acceptance, rejection, pricing, and servicing of motor carrier insurance policies within accepted company procedures and guidelines.
Maintains effective agency relationships and manages agency profitability within assigned areas. Is familiar with motor carrier filings at the Federal and State level.
Will use knowledge and independent judgment to determine eligibility of risks when compared to guidelines of motor carrier programs available.
Responds to questions from agents and insureds received via telephone and email.
CANDIDATES MUST RESIDE IN KANSAS.
Job duties include but are not limited to :
- Reviews insurance applications and documentation to determine if applicant is an acceptable risk.
- Recommends appropriate premiums and coverage for risk after completing analysis of submission.
- Expertly applies underwriting guidelines to ensure underwriting quality and profitability.
- Achieves premium growth and / or higher Total Written Premium goal compared to company standards.
- Provides excellent account management and customer service to achieve profitability goals.
- Identify cross sell opportunities to write additional lines of business.
- Retain key renewals by working closely with our appointed brokers in the motor carrier segment.
- Ability to handle commercial line accounts which generate at least $100,000 in premium.
- Build and manage productive and positive relationships with internal and external customers.
Position Requirements :
5+ years’ experience in motor carrier underwriting exercising superior technical knowledge, proven presentation abilities, strong decision making, stellar analytical skills, as well as demonstrated leadership and management skills.
CPCU or Professional insurance designation preferred.
- Knowledge of commercial auto rating scheme.
- Strong identifiable existing relationships within the retail and wholesale motor carrier segment.
- Professional manner demonstrated when performing all duties and responsibilities.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications including Word, Excel & Outlook.
- Experience working with document retention applications in a paperless environment.
- Knowledge of Federal / state laws and regulations applicable to motor carrier filings.
- Comprehensive knowledge of P&C industry Best practices and procedures for underwriting.
- Self-directed in managing complex workload while exhibiting sound judgment.
- Strong computer skills and ability to work with multi-faceted systems.
