Description
The City of Redding is establishing an eligibility list to fill a full time Power Plant Maintenance Mechanic position in the Electric Department, as well as subsequent vacancies that occur during the life of the list.
Employees in this classification perform maintenance and repairs on plant facilities and equipment. Employees in this classification work 10 hour shifts, subject to the IBEW Electric Memorandum of Understanding.
We are looking for someone to
- Service and maintain plant equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance duties, including the collection of trending information for Power Plant supervision.
- Keep track of spare parts as they are used and complete usage report.
- Keep abreast of revisions to the maintenance manual.
- Assist in the maintenance of plant operating manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams, and preventive / predictive maintenance records.
- Set up and operate lathes, drill presses, and other machine tools in the performance of all machine work to close tolerances.
- Inspect and repair all turbines, heat exchangers, pumps, fans, and similar equipment.
- Dismantle and reassemble combustion and steam turbine generators during inspection.
- Scrape, fit, and adjust all bearings where precision fit and adjustments are required.

Qualifications we're looking for
- Knowledge of power plant equipment
- Knowledge equipment maintenance and repair
- Knowledge welding
- Knowledge basic mathematics
- Ability to interact effectively with the public and employees
- Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to area of assignment
- Ability to read and understand maintenance manuals, technical references, prints, and diagrams and preventive / predictive maintenance records
- Ability to operate lathes, drill presses, and other machine tools
- Ability to prepare and maintain records or reports
- Ability to work in confined spaces and participate in the Power Plant Confined Space Program
Education, Experience, & Special Requirements :
Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
- Typical education would include a high school diploma, or equivalent.
- Typical experience would include three years of journey level experience in industrial or power plant maintenance. Exceptions to the experience level may be made for training purposes.
- Possession of a valid California driver's license, or the ability to acquire one within ten days of appointment.
- Must be able to enter and work in confined spaces, participate in the Confined Space Program, and perform confined space rescue.
- Welding Certification may be required.

Selection Process : Final appointment is contingent upon :
- Positive past employment references
- Review of a driver history record
- Passing a city paid fingerprint criminal conviction check
- Passing of a pre-employment medical exam and drug screening test
Veteran's Credit : Applicants who attach a copy of the DD-214 to their application indicating "Honorable Discharge" from military service and receive a passing score on the examination process will have two (2) additional points added to their final examination score.
