Summary :
The Disaster Recovery Support Specialist will provide essential on-the-ground assistance to support disaster recovery operations in areas affected by a hurricane.
This entry-level position involves a variety of tasks, including helping with supply distribution, providing information to affected residents, and assisting recovery teams in rebuilding efforts.
No prior experience is required, but a willingness to work in challenging environments and a strong desire to help those in need are essential.
Responsibilities :
- Assist in the distribution of food, water, and essential supplies to hurricane-affected communities.
- Support cleanup efforts in disaster-impacted areas, including debris removal and basic site preparation for rebuilding.
- Provide residents with information on available relief resources and connect them to recovery services.
- Help set up and manage temporary shelters or disaster relief centers, ensuring residents receive adequate care and support.
- Perform basic administrative tasks, such as logging distributed supplies and updating records of assistance provided.
- Assist disaster recovery teams in setting up equipment and managing logistics for ongoing recovery operations.
- Provide general assistance to disaster response coordinators, helping wherever needed in the field.
- Work with local relief organizations, volunteers, and first responders to ensure coordinated recovery efforts.
- Maintain a safe and respectful environment for survivors, volunteers, and team members.
- Other job duties as required.
Qualifications :
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience volunteering or working in disaster relief, construction, or humanitarian efforts.
- Basic knowledge of disaster recovery processes and safety protocols .
- Strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and desire to assist in disaster recovery efforts.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and moving supplies, debris removal, and outdoor work in various weather conditions.
- Good communication skills and a customer service mindset, with the ability to interact respectfully with disaster survivors.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing situations and perform tasks as needed in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work long hours, including evenings and weekends, based on disaster response needs.
Working Conditions : This position may require fieldwork in hurricane-affected areas, which may involve exposure to harsh weather conditions, debris, and emotionally challenging situations.
Work hours can be extended, and flexibility is essential to meet the dynamic needs of the disaster recovery effort.
