Job Summary

The Histotechnologist prepares and processes tissue specimens for microscopic examination by a physician. Fixes, embeds section, mounts on a slide and stains surgically, biopsy, neuropathological and autopsy tissue sections so that the presence or absence of disease may be effectively demonstrated to the Pathologist responsible for reading the slide and making a diagnosis.

Pay Range

Minimum $46.00 Midpoint $46.00 Maximum $47.00

Experience

  • Required : Minimum two (2) years experience at the bench level.
  • Preferred : Three (3) to five (5) years of experience at the bench level.

Education

  • Required : New Graduate with Histotechnologist certification.
  • Preferred : Associates degree in sciences.

Training

  • Required : ASCP Certification
  • Preferred : Approved HT program

Specialized Skills

  • Required : Must have strong mental and visual concentration. Good hand / eye coordination. Strong interpersonal skills with emphasis on communication.
  • Preferred : Troubleshooting skills

Licensure

Required : Histotechnologist National Cert

Work Environments - Functional Demand :

Light - Moderate energy level Lift and carry 25-35 lbs. Push / pull 50-100 lbs. (ie. empty bed, stretcher).
