Position Summary
HDR’s Construction Management and Construction Engineering and Inspection division helps clients mitigate their construction risk with superior leadership and efficient practices.
Our global team of more 1,000 construction management, construction engineering and inspection, project controls, construction administration, and environmental monitoring staff members serves our clients as on-site representatives.
HDR is seeking an experienced construction professional to serve as our Transportation Construction Management Business Class Manager for Washington State.
This leadership position will collaborate with the Washington Transportation Business Group Manager and the Washington Transportation Business Development Leader to identify critical areas of growth, develop strong relationships with our clients, and meet the ever-expanding needs of the region.
The ideal candidate will possess strong management skills to aid in successful delivery of projects in Washington State, including coordinating construction management staffing needs throughout the region, balancing the construction management regional workload, developing construction management technical expertise, and supporting business development.

Primary Responsibilities
In the role of Washington Transportation Construction Management Business Class Manager, we'll count on you to :
- Lead and develop Washington Transportation’s Construction Management group and drive long-term growth.
- Manage key construction management projects and foster strong client relationships.
- Collaborate with Washington’s Transportation Business Group Manager, Transportation Business Development Leader, Market Sector Leaders, Business Class Managers, Major Programs Leaders, Cross-Business-Group Partners, and other regional leadership.
- Build relationships with all construction management staff in the region, including conducting regular meetings with staff to discuss key challenges, forecast and manage workloads, coordinate staffing needs, foster open communication, and provide opportunities for skills development.
- Promote career development for construction management staff throughout the region, including providing guidance on training, mentoring, and recognizing staff.
- Assist in the recruiting and hiring of construction management professionals.
- Coordinate and manage quality and best practices used across the Construction Management Business Class.
- Oversee scope / fee development and execution of large construction management projects in conjunction with the Washington Area and regional construction management staff.
- Anticipate and identify potential issues and risks that may impact program implementation and assist the client or project team with problem solving, issues resolution, risk mitigation, and timely decision making.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least three years of construction management project manager / resident engineer or major project management experience.
- Experience on major transportation or transit projects involving complex coordination with local jurisdictions, third-party partners, and other agencies having jurisdiction.
- Skilled at developing and managing diverse teams.
- Active engagement in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and visibility.
- Ability to work cooperatively with other business class managers, operations managers, technical directors, and business development leadership.
- Well-developed organizational, interpersonal, communication, coordination, and leadership skills.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
- 10 years of experience
- Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
- Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience experienced in development and management of diverse teams
- Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions.
