Duties Description The New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH), Office of Coordinated Nursing Services (OCNS) is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a Nurse Practitioner Psychiatry, G-24, position.
Under the direction of the OCNS Deputy Director, the Nurse Practitioner Psychiatry will serve as an administrative team lead working toward enhanced capacity to provide compassionate, evidence-based informed care to an underserved psychiatric treatment population.
OCNS works collaboratively with facility nursing services across OMH subspecialties of Child, Adult, & Forensic to develop and support education and training of Nurse Practitioners, RNs, LPNs, and Direct Care staff.
OCNS oversees the implementation of evidenced-based nursing practices to drive quality and excellence in psychiatric mental health nursing throughout OMH State Operated Psychiatric Centers and licensed programs.
This position will be responsible for educational leadership, collaboration, and participation in all activities related to education, training, and research targeting multiple levels of OMH Nursing Services spanning psychiatric facilities located throughout NYS.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions :
Function as Faculty to facilitate the implementation of the Nurse Practitioner Fellowship Program; assist with the development of a Core Curriculum;
prepare and present didactic presentations and lecture on topics related to Nurse Practitioner practice; and coordinate guest speakers and faculty
Provide support to fellowship enrolled OMH employed Nurse Practitioners across adult civil, child and forensic inpatient, and outpatient services;
provide Office Hours and establish pathways for supervisory mentorship and case consultation
- Establish expectation and criteria for self-evaluation to identify knowledge gaps, deficiencies, and limits in NP level of knowledge, expertise, and attitude, develop process and implement tools to measure learning outcomes in observable and measurable terms
- Pursue grant funding and educational opportunities specific to NP practice
