Position Summary
Staff Nurse I is accountable for the delivery of patient care utilizing the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model as the framework.
The Staff Nurse I provides direct patient care and takes initiative to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice, Relationship Based Care and standards of nursing excellence into clinical practice.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform RN duties.
- Adhere to UI Health Code of Conduct.
- Adhere to Nursing's time, overtime, and standards of performance.
- Comply with University Health Services TB, flu compliance, and fit testing requirements.
- Complete required orientation program and unit-specific competencies.
- Develop, implement, and update the patient's plan of care based on ongoing assessment of the patient and input from the patient's family.
- Share information and collaborate with other members of the health care team to promote effective patient care.
- Verify and implement orders from physician, physician assistant, and / or advance practice nurse by performing interventions as prescribed by the provider and documenting accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Engage and obtain information from patient and / or family to develop an appropriate patient educational plan.
- Recognize symptoms, establish priorities, and respond to patient's changing needs.
- Engage support personnel by delegating appropriate tasks per the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act and provide support and feedback.
- Advocate for patients, families, and their significant others, the community, and the nursing profession.
- Integrate theoretical knowledge, evidence-based research, current standards of practice and clinical experience to provide quality patient care.
- Participate in organizational, departmental, and shared leadership activities; support department and unit goals in daily behavior.
- Assume role of Charge Nurse when assigned.
- Serve as preceptor and / or resource to other nursing staff and students.
- Access UI Health intranet / Outlook for relevant communication and to review and interpret changes in policy, procedure, and other information pertinent to practice.
- Support nursing and multidisciplinary research efforts conducted on the unit and UI Health.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
Minimum Qualifications
- Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
- Current AHA BLS / CPR and other required unit specific certifications.
- Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships.
- Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills and work history required.
- BSN or MSN or DNP Graduate of an accredited nursing program required.
- New grads who have completed / passed NCLEX exam are encouraged to apply.
- Must obtain STABLE certification within 3 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum one (1) to two (2) years of recent PICU, NICU, ICU, MedSurg or ED experience preferred.
