This job performs quality control on all nuclear medicine equipment, maintains radiopharmaceutical laboratory, and performs dose calculations and administration for individual patients requiring nuclear medicine procedures.

Abides by all clinic and state laws concerning radiation while interacting with patients, explaining procedures, counseling, and assisting.

Education

Required -High School diploma or equivalent

Work Experience

Required -None.

Certifications

Required -Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) OR Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB),Current State of Louisiana Nuclear Medicine Technologist License,Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information. Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard
  • Strong interpersonal skills

Job Duties

  • Ensures a safe and effective medical exam.
  • Communicates with patients and staff via telephone and computer.
  • Completes appropriate medical / legal documentation.
  • Performs all appropriate quality control on equipment and radiopharmaceuticals and administers correct dose of radiopharmaceutical to patient.
  • Maintains required clinical knowledge, technical skills, training, and credentials.

Physical and Environmental Demands

The physical essential functions of this job include (but are not limited to) the following : Frequently exerting 10 to 20 pounds of force to move objects;

occasionally exerting up to 100 pounds of force. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work.
