Position Summary
This position performs semi-skilled and skilled small engine, automotive and heavy equipment mechanic work. The position also performs a variety of recurring and related tasks using steps and processes that are readily understood and that are associated with less complex systems and components.
Work includes NC State Inspections, fluid changes for multiple types of engines, preventative maintenance service and lube for many types of vehicles and equipment, belt changes, occasional inspection and replacement of brake pads and shoes, battery charging and replacement, tire repair.
Administrative work includes data entry for the work order system and scanning and filing invoices. Must be able to receive and follow direction outlined by supervisor.
This position will assist the supervisor in the repair, rebuild, and diagnosis of a diverse number of mechanical systems for a variety of gasoline, diesel, and alternative powered engines / equipment.
Standard operational guidelines and shop safety procedures are established and must be followed.Assignments are normally received in the form of written or verbal work orders.
New or unusual assignments may be accompanied by more detailed instructions. Work is performed under general supervision and may be reviewed and inspected in progress or upon completion.

or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Must have clean driving record, valid NC license, and the ability to receive a NCSI license.
Preferred Education / Experience / Skills Two years experience or a combination of education and experience in preventative maintenance and basic troubleshooting and repair and use of any of the following is preferred :
- Small engines, two and four stroke engines to large commercial mowers.
- Heavy Equipment such as tractors and backhoes
- Vehicles-both domestic and foreign manufactured.
- Knowledge and experience with a wide range of mechanical systems is a plus. Examples include : Emergency generatorsHydraulic lifts and systems.

The ideal candidate will also have a State Inspection License and willingness / availability to enroll in training classes as required for new equipment.
Work Schedule and Hours Typical hours are Monday-Friday from 7 : 00 a.m. to 4 : 00 p.m. Occasional work on evenings and weekends may be needed to meet the needs of the department.
