Job Description
OVERVIEW :
Designs, plans, and builds IT storage solutions. Configures storage systems, storage networking, and / or backup technologies using vendor recommended best practices and maintains sustainment of storage operations.
Coordinates and plans implementation of storage hardware or software enhancements and / or any applicable recurring maintenance;
additionally monitors the storage environment utilizing industry leading technologies. Provides innovative methods and technical solutions using applicable engineering design principals and processes.
GENERAL DUTIES :
Analyzes customer requirements and provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems
Performs maintenance and upgrade of networks including servers, routers, switches, firewalls, remote access systems, and networks
Maintains network integrity and connectivity while ensuring compliance with policies and maintains system backup and recovery capability
Coordinates the acquisition of hardware and software as well as subcontractor services as needed
Creates plans and configures systems for data communication networks
Designs and builds hardware and software components for computer or telecommunications networks
Evaluates new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network
Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned
May coach and provide guidance to less-experienced professionals
May serve as a team or task lead
Design, architect, configure, deploy, upgrade and support various storage and backup platforms and associated management tools.
Diagnose and troubleshoot storage systems and other related technologies
Adhere to engineering and architecture standards and participate in technical review meetings as required
Participate in the evaluation, deployment, management, and integration of new technologies in alignment with other engineers, architects, and technical service lanes
Incident support and participation in on-call rotation during off hours and weekends
Create and maintain documentation : logical / physical diagrams, run books and other technical engineering documents
Consistently demonstrate initiative and commitment to optimizing systems and processes
Oversee the Installation of new storage hardware and software according to standard operating procedures
Oversees the updates to hardware, operating systems, and software as needed to provide required functionality and security
Ensures systems are monitored and statistics relevant to capacity, performance, utilization, etc. are collected and regularly reviewed
Keeps abreast of current developments in storage and backup technology to assist Federal staff in assessing the future direction of storage and backup technology
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS :
NetApp / Dell Certification
PowerShell / Python scripting experience
Experience leveraging scripts to audit and enforce configuration standards
Amazon Web Services / C2S experience
Required Skills
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :
Hands on engineering experience with NetApp and other storage technologies and concepts
Experience with SAN, NAS and iSCSI storage implementations
Experience with capacity planning and sizing storage and backup environments
Experience in performance tuning and optimizing storage and backup environments
Experience with data center migrations and storage replication technologies
Senior level experience with design, development, implementation and maintenance of large-scale systems, preferably across multiple hardware platforms and data centers
Strong understanding of high availability concepts with practical experience and implementation of key components in storage environment
Strong understanding of fundamental hardware concepts : disk, memory, CPU, NIC, HBA, firmware, RAID, performance concepts (I / O, paging, swapping, system calls), iSCSI, Fiber Channel, Ethernet
Strong understanding of essential TCP / IP concepts : TCP, UDP, ICMP, SMTP, SNMP, LDAP, DNS, NTP, etc.
Understanding of security best practices, federal hardening requirements (FISMA, STIG, etc.)
CompTIA Security+ or similar for IAT Level II DoD 8570 certification
