Job Purpose
The Assistant Paving Operations Manager (APOM) will assist the Paving Operations Manager (POM) in coordinating paving resources to meet project needs.
The APOM will also work closely with paving crews to procure the tools and materials needed for each project. The APOM will work with the POM to develop paving plans and will help supervise the execution of these plans in the field.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in ensuring the safety of crew members and participate in safety talks.
- Assist in enforcing company direction, policy, and procedures.
- Assist in developing and managing concrete paving plans and schedules for all projects.
- Assist Facilities Manager with procuring tools for paving crews as needed.
- Coordinate the ordering and delivery of Construction Materials (not Permanent).
- Review / Assist with Purchase Orders for permanent paving materials.
- Assist with Pre-Activity meetings for concrete paving operations.
- Monitor and help manage production costs.
- Review goals and evaluate actual performance with field personnel.
- Assist crews in plan and specification review and interpretation.
- Review Timecards of Paving Foreman and Superintendents.
- Review and approve invoices.
- Assist POM as needed with advising Estimating Department on constructability questions and attending concrete paving bid reviews.
Qualifications
Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline. Minimum five (5) years of heavy construction experience.
An equivalent combination of education and / or experience may be considered.
- Experience with heavy highway, airport, and DOD paving preferred.
- Ability to problem solve and think clearly in intense situations.
- Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of individuals in person, via telephone and in writing. Excellent relationship building ability.
- Ability to work independently and resolve practical problems, keeping all appropriate parties aware of issues or risks.
- Have a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrate an ability to read and understand project plans and job schedules.
- Understand the requirements of MW Safety and HR programs and enforce company's policies.
- Proficient computer skills including use of the Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Project Scheduling.
Other Functions
- Must be willing to travel as needed to various concrete paving projects across the U.S.
- Must be willing to work nights as needed during nighttime paving operations.
- Must be able to pass a Federal background check to enter secure facilities including airports, military installations, and railroad yards.
- Safety support and planning work with Health and Safety Personnel.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
Outside environment, exposure to all weather conditions and temperature extremes. Site specific exposure to hazardous materials requiring proper use of Personal Protective Equipment.
Noise levels are site specific and may be subject to PPE.

- The position requires that you will walk the construction site, climb ladders, climb stairs and walk on uneven ground.
- Position will require employee to spend a large portion of their time on the project sites.
