Job Description

The SWAP Hub Circuits and Architectures Design and Test Capability Area is hiring an engineer to oversee the development and maintenance of a library of analog, digital, and RF circuits (IP blocks) for internal and licensed external use.

Essential Duties

  • Independently plans, schedules, conducts, and / or coordinates detailed phases of engineering assignments while receiving technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects
  • Creates designs and fabricates electrical and / or electronic components, electrical circuits, equipment and integrated systems.

Sets up and optimizes performance of new custom equipment

  • Performs engineering calculations to solve engineering problems
  • Oversees the design or develops engineering designs including plans and specifications based on calculations; reviews, interprets and revises engineering design
  • Develops prototype hardware in coordination with project group members
  • Coordinates the troubleshooting and repair of a wide variety of equipment and instrumentation and / or performs testing and troubleshooting of experimental equipment and systems and performs repairs, modifications or adjustments to eliminate malfunctions
  • Performs research and measurements relating to specific projects, writes documentation, manuals and reports
  • Coordinates with other project group members and supervisor on technical problems
  • Trains faculty, staff and students in operation of equipment
  • Supervises and coordinates the work activities of engineers, scientists, technicians and others who assist in specific assignments
  • Sets up software for data acquisition, storage and sharing.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field AND seven (7) years of related engineering experience, which includes two (2) years of lead or supervisory experience;
  • OR, nine (9) years of electrical engineering or related experience, which includes seven (7) years of professional level electrical experience, which includes two (2) years of lead or supervisory experience;

OR, any equivalent combination of experience and / or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Possession of, or ability to obtain within six months, a certificate of registration as a professional engineer with proficiency in Electrical Engineering with registration in the state of Arizona.

Employee must possess a valid US Drivers license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment.

  • Experience in applying advanced engineering principles and procedures
  • Experience in design and assembly of electrical circuits, specifically for display support
  • Experience in interfacing hardware with equipment and systems
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple concurrent projects and assignments
  • Evidence of effective communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills

Working Environment

  • This is a first shift position 0800-1700, Monday-Friday. Occasional off shift work may be required to manage emergencies
  • Regular activities require ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks at one time, manage conflict, work well in a team environment and operate independently, and communicate effectively to exchange accurate information.
  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office and laboratory settings subject to extended periods of being in a stationary position, walking moderate distances to perform work functions, and operating computer and other office productivity machinery
  • Some activities will entail the need for frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties
