We are currently searching for a Coding Technician (Medical Billing) to join ourCoding Team at OrthoCarolina in Charlotte.

The CodingTech is responsible foraccurate coding of 500+ general orthopedic surgery cases for assigned physicians. This position provides written and / or oral feedback to physicians and staff on coding changes or identified trends that affect their practice.

The Coding Tech works with the business office department to appeal coding related denials and determines codes necessary for precertification of surgery.

Other duties may include :

  • Maintains a working knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 CM coding principles, governmental regulations, protocols and third party requirements regarding billing and documentation guidelines to assure accurate CPT-4 and ICD-9CM code assignment of surgical charges.
  • Coordinates with pre-certification office in providing CPT and ICD-9 codes prior to surgery date when needed.
  • Coordinates the proper coding of co-surgeries with other surgery groups in the community to ensure proper reimbursement and coding regulations are adhered to.
  • Assists clinic staff to ensure appropriate codes are used for insurance pre-certification
  • Remains up-to-date on billing protocols, pricing methodologies, proper utilization of global edits and the CCI. Remains current with federal legislative changes that effect coding and reimbursement.

Reviews, modifies and recommends changes to policies and procedures to improve coding and reimbursement efficiencies.

Establishes and maintains a professional working relationship with physicians and staff.

Education / Experience :

  • High school diploma, required.
  • American Academy of Professional Coders Certification CPC required.
  • Two years’ experience in a surgical office, hospital or other health-related enterprise as medical coder preferred.
  • Insurance background or knowledge also preferred
