The Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind is seeking a Food Service Worker to provide healthy, safe and sanitary meals to the students and staff of the school, with friendly customer service.
This is an 11-month position (paid over 12 months) with full state benefits. Working hours are 5 : 30am 2 : 00pm, Monday through Friday.
Responsibilities include :
- Assisting with the preparation and serving of meals
- Cleaning the dining and kitchen areas
- Washing dishes
- Receiving food orders
- Putting stock in correct storage places
Minimum Qualifications
- Current CPR and First Aid certification required or must be obtained in accordance with school policies.
- Proficiency level of Novice in American Sign Language as measured by the Sign Language Proficiency Scale or agreement to acquire the specified level within three years.
- Ability to follow oral and written instruction.
- Ability to tolerate varied temperatures.
- Ability to lift 35-50 pounds, perform repetitive motion to include standing, sitting, reaching, lifting, walking, bending and climbing.
Additional Considerations
- Prefer high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate (An equivalent amount of training and / or experience may substitute for the educational requirement).
- Prefer general knowledge in meal service.
- Prefer general knowledge in food preparation.
- Prefer knowledge in food equipment and cleaning supplies.
- Prefer some experience in the preparation of large quantities of food.
