At Houston Methodist the Ultrasound / VascularTechnologist II position is an experienced Technologist whocompletes a variety of routine to highly complex diagnosticUltrasound procedures to include common and special ultrasoundexams of high difficulty including vascular ultrasound exams.

Thisposition is a member of the direct patient care team and is fullycompetent in all aspects of ultrasound exams. TheUltrasound / Vascular Technologist II position serves as a mentor toUltrasound Technologist I and students by utilizing skills andknowledge to help train and educate others.

This position worksindependently by exercising sound judgment and executing aboveaverage clinical skills on challenging diagnostic procedures andpatient care situations.

The Ultrasound / Vascular Technologist IIposition provides direct assistance to physicians with alldiagnostic and special ultrasound procedures.

This positiondelivers exceptional patient care and adheres to ultrasound examstandards and guidelines established by governing agencies toensure optimal patient safety and customer service.

Communication to promote both work efforts and problem resolutionis clear and professional providing the highest quality serviceduring every customer and patientencounter.

SERVICEESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performsdiagnostic ultrasound procedures to include common and specialultrasound exams. Also able to perform vascular ultrasound exams.

Ultrasound exams use highfrequency sound waves to captureimages.

Proactivelyassesses identifies and responds to the needs of the patient foradjustment or intervention to optimize patient care image qualityand patient experience.

This includes : positioning physiologyprocedure preparation and technical factors. Modifies technicalfactors to achieve desired imaging results and recognizescomplications and limitations associated with certainprocedures.

  • Providesdirect assistance to physicians during diagnostic procedures orspecial ultrasound procedures including assisting with steriletechnique.
  • Providesaccurate explanations and instructions to patients and familymembers at an appropriate level utilizing verbal and nonverbalskills terminology andlanguage.

QUALITY / SAFETYESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Followssafety standards and conducts all imaging procedures accordingly.Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures regularlypractices aseptic techniques and ensures compliance with infectioncontrol procedures.

Complies with job role department and hospitalsafety standards practices andpolicies.

Identifiesopportunities for corrective action and process improvementproviding recommendations and contributes to meeting department andhospital targets for quality and safety.

Reports near misses andinputs errors promptly into appropriate hospital patient safetyreporting system to improve processes and identify trends.

Utilizescritical thinking skills to observe and proactively address patientreactions (i.e. contrast media and medications) or potentialoutcomes asappropriate.

Ensures allimaging equipment has had quality control (QC) performed asrequired and is in safe working order prior to use.

Reports anymalfunctions to management and regularly practices preventativemaintenance procedures; calls for service ifneeded.

Assists withimplementation and education of department based safety initiativesand standards ofpractice.

FINANCE ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

  • Provides accurateand complete documentation of patient procedures. Enters charges atthe time service isdelivered.
  • Uses resourcesefficiently; does not waste supplies. Selfmotivated toindependently manage time effectively and prioritize dailytasks.

Activelyparticipates in special projects department initiatives or sharedgovernance activities and seeks opportunities to expand learningwith a focus on continual development.

Completes and updates theindividual development plan (IDP) on an ongoingbasis.

WORKEXPERIENCE

Three yearsexperience as a UltrasoundTechnologist

LICENSESAND CERTIFICATIONSREQUIRED

  • RDMSOB RegisteredDiagnostic Medical Sonographer OB / GYN (ARDMS) OR
  • RDMSAB RegisteredDiagnostic Medical Sonographer Abdomen (ARDMS) OR
  • RDMSBR RegisteredDiagnostic Medical Sonographer Breast (ARDMS) Breast (BR)credential earned prior to June 30 2010 will be accepted asreferenced in American College of Radiology guidelines OR
  • ARRTSON RadiologicTechnologist Sonography (ARRT) AND
  • ARRTVS RadiologicTechnologist Vascular Sonography (ARRT) within 18 months OR
  • RVS Registered VascularSpecialist (CCI) within 18 months OR
  • RVT Registered VascularTechnologist (ARDMS) within 18 months AND
  • BLS Basic Life Support(AHA)

  • Demonstrates theskills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assignedjob determined through ongoing skills competency assessments andperformanceevaluations
